That's not an Americanism. We don't often say it to living service people but saying thank you for your service to a deceased war hero is very normal in the UK.
The story gets stranger. Santa Fe clinic says Gene Hackman’s wife called them the day after police say she died A private healthcare clinic in New Mexico has cast doubt on official findings about the timing of the death of Gene Hackman’s wife, Betsy Arakawa, claiming that she rang them on 12 February – the day after police say she died. Dr Josiah Child, the head of Cloudberry Health in Santa Fe, where the couple lived, told the Mail on Sunday: “Mrs Hackman didn’t die on 11 February because she called my clinic on 12 February.”
What a character. A true one-off and probably the last of the bosses who built their teams from the ground up to be successful in Formula 1. Hopefully suitable tributes will be paid in China this weekend.
I’m not sure this matters at all, the police only gave her time of death based on the last time anyone saw her, the fact it was actually a day later doesn’t alter anything really.
What complicates the Gene Hackman matter further is that he reportedly left everything to his wife in his will, and nothing to his children. But since it seems she died before him the will's useless.
I sense lawsuits incoming that will drain his estate before anyone gets a sniff of it. Bet the lawyers are sharpening their knives as we speak (or type).
Oleg Gordievsky, one of the heroes of the Cold War has died. Former KGB double agent Oleg Gordievsky dies at Surrey home Would recommend anyone interested in espionage or the Cold War, or just wants a thrilling story to read Ben Macintyre's book on him called The Spy and the Traitor. The story of his escape from Moscow is hard to believe. RIP. Thank you for your service.
I'm sure his 5 sons will all attend either way, George, George, George, George and George wouldn't miss George's funeral. All five of his sons share the same name, George Edward Foreman — something the boxer said he did to unite the men together. "I named all my sons George Edward Foreman so they would always have something in common," Foreman previously wrote on his website. "I say to them, 'If one of us goes up, then we all go up together. And if one goes down, we all go down together!' " He also famously said one time: "I tell people, 'If you're going to get hit as many times as I've been hit by Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Evander Holyfield, you're not going to remember many names.'" Such a sad day for boxing yesterday with the passing of not only the great George Foreman but also the former world lightweight champion Livingstone Bramble and the long-serving British journalist Colin Hart as well.
( I know I shouldn't laugh but had to) RIP George Related to Titus? I'm not a big Boxing Fan but of course I know all the legends of the 70s like Ali, Joe Frazier and George Foreman
