Best away pub personally is The Vine at West Brom. It's like entering the Tardis. Has a marquee as well but the real draw is the food which is cooked in Tandoori ovens & is really tasty. www.thevine.co.uk
Best bit about an away day at West Brom is the Vine, does get a bit busy pre-game but the food is absolutely spot on.
It's awhile since I've been but yes it's spot on. Gets busy but you never have to wait long to get served. Remember the first time I went down the road, more an alley & saw the pub I thought we will just have a quick one as it'll be rammed but as I said earlier it's a proper Tardis. Both sets of fans mixing which is good & not a hint of trouble. Someone told me its home fans only these days which if trues a bummer.
Been 3/4 years since i was last there but definitely wasn't home fans only then, like you said a good mix of folk without a hint of trouble. Mind you after one of their mixed grills i'd be impressed if you could stand up let alone get into a row
Best pub ive been to this season is the Salopian Hotel in Shrewsbury, down by the Riverside a couple of minutes away from the Bus Station where the football special picks up. 2-3 Screens for Football and a great selection of real ale at just over £3 a pint. the only downside was some bloke in a Lincoln City Shirt was in there. Just behind it i went to Wigan v Bristol City as it was only a tenner and me and my mate found the Wigan Central Bar, which is brilliant.
Rochdale is brilliant for convinience with that segregated pub attached to ground. Walsall was always good too for the same reason but think it’s home fans only now? Always love the London away trips because even though the city is far and away the biggest shithole and con in England, you aren’t trapped for where to have a drink. Don’t mind what I pay for summat as long as I’m having a good day out. Barnsley is w*nk, when they do allow us to have a drink it’s Metrodome only (they didn’t allow the other week). We hire out a 52 seater coach now for 90% of our games rather than train (cost is too much to a lot of our group now), and even Barnsley game we just do that and drink in donny before and set off last moment we can. Coventry is absolutely awful. Been there so many times now and finally said after last one (this season), I ain’t going back. Waste of money because the day is f*cking boring.
Was up in Derby for the cup game and they had some top pubs there, stand outs were the Silk Mill, the Brunswick and the Exeter.
The Brunswick is a cracking pub, there are a few CAMRA lot get in there but as it has its own micro brewery its to expected. Regularly I'll delicately miss my connection to Beeston & pop in for a couple of pints rather than tear arse across the platforms. There's a Beefeater near Pride Park ( insert new name ) we went in one season & the manageress refused to serve any more drinks until the singing stopped. We had a really over the top police escort from there to the ground.
Anyone got any recommendations for Burnley, up there in a couple of weeks and last time i went ended up in the cricket club which was shit. Been recommended The Bier Haus which looks ok but prefer to try out a couple of different ones.
I usually go to the cricket club mate. You said it was shit but it’s better than what the rest of the shithole offers tbf. I’d recommend the Talbot pub for pre match drinking. Decent sized pub, TV and usually friendly home fans. Also, avoid the pubs in the centre and I wouldn’t advise wearing colours. Got in some bother last time.
Last time I was there we went into The Talbot. It's a decent sized pub plus reading your previous posts they do some good real ales. www.talbotburnley.co.uk
Cheers for the tip mate, went there pre-game and there was a great selection of ales there, had one in the cricket club after and a taxi back to Preston and a few round there before catching the train back south. Good day all round, well except for running into some racist Rangers fans on the train back who almost kicked off at us taking offence at them being racist. How people like that still exist in 2019 i'll never know.
Highbury barn, the snooty fox, faltering fallback, the Compton arms and the Alwyene are all far better pubs. As shit as the Emirates is as a ground Highbury is quality for drinking Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
