They finished 6th last season & there's another English / German defender in last season's squad , he's 26 so good age , he'll be earning far more their than at Posh & their ground has a 49.000 capacity , a tadge larger than London Road & yeah you're right , there's quite a bit of English talent in the Bundesliga already , arguably the most successful European League last season it pains me to say .
According to the 96 Website he signed a contract until 2026 with an option for another year Ablösefrei von der Insel: Hannover 96 verpflichtet Josh Knight Regarding info of H96: Hannover 96 is often called "little HSV" , because of the complete name of the Club "Hannoverscher Sport-Verein von 1896" It was the only club in Northern Germany who could break the dominance of HSV after WWII until the foundation of the Bundesliga 1963. In the old Oberliga Nord HSV (the big one ) won every Northern German Title from 1947-1963 except 1954 where HSV (the little one) could win it (this year they even won the German Championship in the final against FCK (5-1). Titles: German Champions: 1938/1954, Northern German Champion 1954, German Cup Winner 1992 (as 2.Bundesliga club)
Wandered around Hannover's ground last month. Looks good, with an opponent that brings loads, I reckon you can a good time there. Hannover was also one of the grounds during the 2006 World Cup when France knocked out Spain (the beginning of the Ribéry years). Always thought the place had more to offer than Düsseldorf but that's me.
Bit shit the way it all ends. Hummels & Terzic have a falling out, fine. But why get rid of both? The way I see it, Hummels was a dick in the dressing room so him leaving would have solved everything (even though it would have raised a lot of eyebrows given the superb season he's had). Terzic leaving after putting BvB in the CL final just makes no sense to me. He's a BvB guy and will stick around if he's needed but the club now need to find a CB stalwart AND a new manager. Not good.
Terzic wasn't sacked. He ended his contract himself and communicated it with a video message to the BVB fans ( maybe he would've been sacked anyway later, idk. But so he decided it himself) a massive arsehole. He gave an interview just before the Champions League final where he publicly criticized the coach. An absolute No-Go at any time but unforgivable before a final. After that Hummels chances to get his contract extended were low (maybe he wanted out anyway). He's 35 he wouldn't get a longtime contract anymore at BVB Rumours are that BVB is in contact with Stuttgart's Captain Waldemar Anton (who made his first match for Germany in March). 7 years younger than Hummels and a very reliable defender. Would've been a good replacement for Hummels. Seems that some other clubs are also interested in him (or he stays at VfB where he just extended his contract in January until 2027) And they already have a new coach, it's Nuri Sahin who was Terzic's Assistant for a few months and was also a longtime BVB player. Risky but he must've convinced the BVB management that he's capable of it.
Thanks for the clarifications, D. Missed the Sahin news (I unplug club football when an international tournament is on) and year Anton could be a good replacement. Still a shame that it had to end this way fort both individuals especially after a successful european spell.
50 years ago (ok, it was 22nd June 1974 so plus 3 days) we had a "historic" match at the Volkspark during the World Cup 1974. It was the first (and only ) match ever: West Germany vs East Germany. (Correctly it must be called Bundesrepublik Deutschland vs Deutsche "Demokratische" Republik (I set the quotes at Democratic because they weren't democratic ) We lost 0-1 , absolutely shocking for me as an 11 year old that we lost this against the "commies" and afterwards the Kaiser himself got exhausted in the cabin and brought us back into the line for winning the World Cup. source: Zeitreise: Heute vor 50 Jahren im Volkspark When I see the old Volkspark now here with its bowl shape and mostly uncovered there comes some nostalgic mood although I don't miss standing in the windy old Volkspark when it was raining it still has the memories of the greatest HSV teams ever in the mid 70s until mid 80s where we were #1 in Germany (and also among the best in Europe) How the Volkspark has changed over the last 50 years. Nowadays it's a fine one. re HSV now: 2.Bundesliga starts August 2nd, so roughly in 5 weeks and we still have no new players. At least 2.Bundesliga Goalgetter Robert Glatzel stays at HSV but we'll most likely lose Laszlo Benes (who is actually at the Euro with Slovakia). btw: The above mentioned transfer of Stuttgart Captain Waldemar Anton to Dortmund seems to be fix now.
Never been there for decades. Tbh I don't visit Baden-Württemberg very often. Last time I was there was 10 years ago but that was in Baden-Baden which is Baden () and not Schwaben. All I know is that the Swabians have a horrible accent like the Badener. Very hard to understand for a Northerner like me. So I have no clue about Stuttgart as a city nowadays as it's too long ago that I was there. Why do you ask? ********************** edit: Here's a list of the new players for the 2.Bundesliga clubs. Actually 16 of 18 already have new players. Guess which clubs haven't yet, 28th June? Die Sommer-Neuzugänge der Zweitligisten im Überblick
Most off-putting place I've been at the Euros. Especially for a location where business is thriving, you'd think the city centre would have something to offer but just looks gloomy and horrible. Did have fun visiting the Porsche Museum and the ground is good (quite frankly underrated) but that's about it. Very disappointing.
? Porsche, yeah. And what is with Mercedes Benz ? btw: When we hear in the media about Stuttgart it's mainly about the Project Stuttgart 21. A disaster which already costs more than 3-times what was planned (If I remember it they planned the cost with 4 billion Euro but the Project is already at 12 billion and rising (Milliarden in German, Billionen is 1000 Milliarden so this is always confusing for me when the english talk about billions ). Stuttgart 21 into google should inform you. Stuttgart's stadium was originally called Neckarstadion, built in the 1930's and this is where the first Germany match after WWII and the 5 year ban took place in 1950 (against our friends from Switzerland, of course). A crowd of 100.000 was there. The name Neckarstadion lasted until the 90's and then this ineffable sponsor-naming became common in many stadiums. Tbh I don't know what's the actual sponsor name, is it still Mercedes Benz Arena? It was renovated for the Euro and now has a capacity again of 60.000 odd for Bundesliga (not for Euro, of course) edit: This is how Stuttgart's stadium looked like in those days. Bowl type with track (like the old Volkspark) until it became football only And nowadays: It's called MHP Arena now, I got it
This would be one of the rare occurance when the German is exactly the same as the French word so no confusion for me. Ground is actually alright. The Ubahn stop is still called Neckarstadion btw. Yes!
DFL scheduled the 1st matchday of 1./2. Bundesliga 1.BL starts 23rd August the Opener, of course with the Champion (no not Bayern ), this time away at Gladbach. 2.BL already starts 3 weeks earlier, 2nd August, with HSV away at 1.FC Köln 1.BL other matchdays to click: Bundesliga heute | Spielplan & Ergebnisse | 1. Spieltag | 2024/25 St.Pauli gets a home opener but Holstein Kiel not. Rude that they have to play their first ever 1.Bundesliga match away 2.BL 4 weeks from now on! other matchdays to click: 2. It will be ironic if St Pauli drops like a stone and gets relegated while Hamburg finally returns to the Bundesliga A in 2025...
Only 8 seasons so far for St.Pauli in the 1.Bundesliga. It's now their 6th promotion to the top tier. Normally they go straight down the next season (3 times). one time they stayed 2 seasons and once even 3. It doesn't help when your best player (Hartel, who was also the best player in the 2.Bundesliga last season) moves in the off season (MLS if I remember it right) and especially when a key factor of their recent success, their coach Fabian Hürzeler leaves just weeks before the new season and after he just extended his contract a few months before, to the Premier League (Brighton). tbh I don't want them go straight down again because I want to have a Hamburg Derby in 2025/26 again
