Of course, this was only a joke vote, at least from me (can't speak for all HSV Fans). This will be a relegation fight for HSV from the first matchday on and nothing else. But funny nonetheless that HSV comes 5th in line in the poll "Who will be Champion?". 126.551 votes (and no, I voted only once ) Here's proof, I scanned the page of the Bundesliga Sonderheft (which is legendary here and is published by Kicker every season (I buy it since my childhood, it's nostalgia, of course, because most content is nowadays available online but hey, sometimes it's good to feel nostalgic in these hectic times )
Quansah has score for Leverkusen on his debut, paid tribute to Jota with his celebration. 1-1 currently at half time.
This says it is a Deutsch Fußball League (DFL) production, for export only (like St Pauli Girl beer ) but they hire English announcers. Makes some sense, probably the biggest market. This link says it gets exported to many countries. (USA via ESPN+ being one.). With some extra production into other languages. Goal Arena - The Bundesliga Konferenz - Sport Business USA broadcaster NBC funds this since 2021, best as I can tell. They hire these guys to do the show, and apparently it is only shown in USA (on NBC’s Peacock streaming service.) Premier League Productions - Wikipedia So you’re mostly right, neither is likely available in the UK, the EPL one is only for USA, it seems, but the BL one has wider worldwide distribution beyond USA.
HSV start the campaign with a goalless draw at Gladbach. Game had stalemate written on it fairly early on as Hamburg were composed at the back and Gladbach have been shit going forward for some time now (manager could be on borrowed time I reckon). Still, good result for them. For some strange reason, I reckon they'll be absolutely fine this season (finish in midtable like 12th) but that St Pauli will be rock bottom from start to finish.
To be honest, I don't see it that way (yet). Okay, after the first matchday, you're at least right about HSV, who are currently in 10th place (not very conclusive yet, I know), but not about St. Pauli, who are not "rock bottom from start to finish". They are after their good 3-3 home draw with Dortmund still ahead of HSV (and in my opinion, they will be at the end of the season, too, but at least aren't certain to be relegated). Well, let's wait and see. At least, I hope you're right about HSV and they stay in the Bundesliga (without any problems).
I see that Steffen Baumgart had his cap on right to start the season, thanks to his new Wunderkind. Will have to watch the well-produced Bundesliga Highlights show on ESPN+ to get an Ansah (or two) to all my Union Berlin questions.
Epic battle tuesday evening between Eintracht Braunschweig and Cup Holder VfB Stuttgart in the rearranged 1st round Cup match (Stuttgart and Bayern played the Super-Cup at the weekend when the DFB Cup matches were played). 3-3 after regular time, 4-4 after extra time and then it took 20 penalties to decide the match. Very unlucky for Eintracht, they had the Cup holder on the brink of elimination already in the 1st round. Just a few minutes were missing, but then Nick Woltemade made it 3-3 in the 89th minute. What a pity. Stuttgart then made it 4-3 in extra time, but Eintracht equalized this time. An incredible match, a real cup battle. Today the other rearranged 1st round match Wiesbaden (3.Liga) vs Bayern. Although in the last years Bayern always failed to progress in the Cup, I don't expect it to happen this time. ********************************** edit: Actually half-time Wiesbaden vs Bayern 0-1 . Penalty Harry Kane, of course. Wiesbaden couldn't cause any trouble in the Bayern half. Boring Cup match so far, no comparison to yesterdays cup battle. Let's see what the 2nd half brings
Bayern were 2-0 up in the cup and have been pegged back to 2-2. Kane's just missed his first competitive penalty for Bayern to put them 3-2 up.
What do I know about football? Totally different 2nd half. Seems I've jinxed it with my edit above Bayern 2-0 up and then 2 defence failures and Wiesbaden scored twice. And Harry Kane missed a penalty in a competitive match. Is this even allowed? ( yes, I know he also missed one in the 4-0 win in the friendly against Spurs but never so far in Germany ). Never thought that Wiesbaden would score, there was simply no hint about it in the 1st half. But that's the Cup! Even if they lose it at the end they can be proud of themselves.
It's a shame that there's extra time. You'd expect Bayern's fitness and quality to win it with another 30 minutes. Edit* never mind. Kane wins it.
Bayern need to improve their depth. They shouldn't really need to rely on Kane and Olise in the first round of the cup.
Tbh I could never enjoy a St pauls win, unwashed, dirty leftie scum, but I must admit to having a snigger tonight.
Your typical stereotype about St.Pauli Fans aside, they really made noise today in the Volkspark. And tbh St.Pauli deserved this win, they were simply better in every department. I'm always the first to admit this when a loss was deserved. Yes, maybe the match would've changed a bit if Königsdörffer's goal for the 1-1 right at the start of the 2nd half wasn't millimetres offside. I was so disappointed about our performance that I went straight home after the match. Hadn't even a beer in the stadium at half-time. Congrats to St.Pauli, though. With such a performance (and already last weekend with the 3-3 against Dortmund) they won't have anything to do with Relegation battle.
Nothing more than every loss hurts. Tbh if you read my posts here from the offseason then you already know that I'm not delusional about this season for HSV. After 7 years in the 2nd tier and losing some important players (which we still haven't replaced adequately) it will be a fight for relegation from the beginning until the end. Hopefully not with beating Tasmania Berlins "record" . Nah, seriously I haven't expected to win a point from our first 3 matches against Gladbach, St.Pauli, Bayern. We already have 1, my expectations have already been exceeded . Next week at Bayern we will have to suffer again but then after the international break I hope we have "adjusted" to the new league ps: So you liked zippy's post about the "unwashed lefty scum of St.Pauli fans"? Shame on you edit: Just realized that the next match against Bayern is just after the international break and not before. Anyway, my point still stands.
Very gracious , I did look out for the scoreline but it looks like when Rikki Jade-Jones recovers from his shoulder injury the best he can hope for is a spot on the bench as St Pauli have started season well whereas Gladbach not so but , still very early days . When does the transfer window close in Germany ?
Sept.1. At last. Hope the PL clubs have now enough BL player "harvested" (agricultural term because (some of) you guys see any other league than the PL as a farmers league (or pub league) ). Gladbach, like HSV, still not scored a goal in the new season. Lost 0-1 in Stuttgart. Bremen got a 3-3 draw against Leverkusen (with one man down and 1-3 behind Ten Hag won't last long here, too, when this continues ) Frankfurt actually red hot. 3-1 win in Hoffenheim. Who needs Marmoush and Ekitiké? Actually Augsburg vs Bayern. Augsburg's new coach is one of the most interesting young ones actually, Sandro Wagner, former German International (although not many caps) and Hoffenheim/Bayern player and until recently assistant of Julian Nagelsmann. I like this guy, he's a witty one. Always liked his comments when he was TV expert edit: When (or if?) this continues..? Anyway, you know what I mean
Augsburg 0-2 Bayern at halftime. Bad time for Augsburg to concede the second. Probably game over now.
