Well in past history and today, many Non english clubs have competed in English competitions. Wrexham, Swansea, Chester, all welsh sides competing in the nationwide...

The FA cup has many sides from wales competing and in the past had teams from Scotland and even Northern Ireland competing in there.

An old pub quiz question goes over here..

Whos the only side to have win every game they played in the FA Cup and not win the trophy.. (however their may be one or two exceptions)...

A: Linfield FC (Belfast - biggest club north or south of the border)

They played up to the semi-finals back at the turn of the century, and beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 i think, and Forest went crying to the FA about them being from NI and LFC were forced from the competition.

Cummon people, you really can't say that Rangers and Celtic would not survive in the Premiership. Not only would they survive but they would benefit the league and also grow themselves.

I personally think it would be a good move although I may be worried about the effects on the lower leagues of both England and Scotland as there is already severe problems with the distribution of income/wealth/revenue.

lets be fair about this topic.
rangers and celtic should not and i think will not join the english premiership.
for a start it would not be right, the both are in seperate countries and have been involved in their seperate leagues for many a years
i believe that both celtic and rangers are both good teams, with excellent and mean really good support and could hold their own and finish mid table in the premiership to begin with
but it is never going to happen so this topic should now end

Gaffa - im afriad tonight, On TV, Celtic Executive Director Brian Quinn said that Celtic had already discusses the move with most big clubs in England, and that every one without fail (he emphasised - EVERY ONE WITHOUT FAIL) was in favour of it happening.

Also, the EPL TV contract ends in 2 years time. the SPL one is going to end at the same time. Just coincedence?
No, its been planned that way, for a reason...

    My this is an interesting subject I'm all in favour of Celtic and Rangers comimg South perhaps places for teams like Hearts and Hibs could be found in the First and Second Divisons. http://devoted.to/Fulhamfc <IMG SRC="smilies/rocketwhore.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/bounce.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/bounce.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/bounce.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/bounce.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/bounce.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/bounce.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/rocketwhore.gif" border="0">

I think that the Man Utd v Celtic game last night to benefit Mr Giggs, showed that the introduction of Celtic and Rangers to the Premiership would be a good move and that both of them could hold their own in the league.
I know it was only a friendly - the most fiercely fought friendly i have seen to be fair, and Beckham was rather lucky to stay out of the book i think - but both teams gave it a go and to beat man Utd on their own patch is somehting not many teams have done.

Still think it will be a few years until it happens, but it will happen.

To be honest this is the first time i have read this thread (well parts of it) and I dunno if you have mentioned it but if the Olf Firm did join the English league they will not be able to qualify for Europe. UEFA have stated that if a team from Wales (Wrexham, Cardiff or Swansea) ever won anything in the English league tht would entitle them to a European place this place would not be granted as the clubs are not actually from England.
However I read today in New Zealand an ambitious outfit from their semi pro league had wanted to prosper and in turn wanted to move to the pro league of Australia. This was denied at first but after much fuss they were eventually granted the move by FIFA so there is hope...all though whether Celtic or Rangers can qualify into Europe from the EPL is another thing all together.
