Bentancur throwing glass bottles into the crowd, hitting a Uruguay staff members apparently. Clearly in complete self defense of course x.com
interesting stat(s , singular if you consider it is the same theme, two if you consider it two competitions) 16 countries in Copa America, only FOUR have a manager/coach the same nationality 24 countries in Euros, only EIGHT have a foreign manager/coach probably a reflection on the respective standards of the countries participating, no sense limiting yourself to a manager of same nationality as your team as that reduces the list to the pick of those who are eg Welsh rather than those who are managers.
IF he was defending his family and trying to keep them safe/alive and same for his team mates families not only shouldn't he face punishment but I think he should be awarded medal for bravery and heroism. If he's just snapped over the result and being baited and goaded by the Colombian fans then he's in serious shit. Could be looking at 12 plus month ban. The problem is until after investigation is over we won't fully know situation one way or the other.
I'm completely opposed to national teams having foreign managers. You're using foreign talent to help you win. Basically, cheating. I'm surprised that all the South American countries use foreign coaches (except Brazil and Argentina.) I thought they were very patriotic. In the final on Sunday, you have an Argentine manager trying to defeat his own country. Ridiculous.
Well it's not against the rules but neither is playing 11 naturalised Brazilians. I think it's wrong.
And indeed, they pulled the trigger. Berhalter is gone. Presumably Jesse stays with the True North bunch. Search for a new guy to lead USA for WC 2026 begins. Mixed feelings. Yeah they had to do it, just to show they are doing something. But the players are the bigger issue… A couple of articles, one in the Athletic and one in a football newsletter I get make the case that our players, despite competing in Europe, are pretty mediocre. Other than Pulisic, none of them come close to being (what we like to call here) a “go to guy” for their squad. Nobody to look for or to realistically rely upon to make a huge play in important situations. From what I’m seeing now, I don’t expect a new USA coach (manager) to fare much better. Hope I’m wrong, but ya gotta give ‘er a shot.
Now I understand why nearly all the games I watched were low quality, scrappy and stop start. Stupid organisation decided to make all the pitches alot smaller than usual because they wouldve had to remove seats in nfl stadiums to make it normal size. Some top players have been complaining and also complained about the bad pitch quality. Luckily the yanks will have to sort that out for the world cup because fifa demand it
Fútbol in Miami in mid-July, even in early evening, not the best plan, given the 29 Celsius temps… …made worse by delays getting people into Hard Rock Stadium, as apparently officials are trying to block those without tickets from entering. Game delayed at least 45 minutes, and reports of fans suffering heatstroke, standing and waiting for an hour or more outside the gates, then being charged $5 for water. I guess we’re learning some difficult logistical lessons in prep for WC ‘26.
I mean hard not to have a late start time if you’re doing it in Miami. Not the best match so far. Actually looked like Messi rolled his ankle
Perhaps the long halftime with Shakira performing is the highlight? Nahhhh… If nobody prevails in ET, early Euro-risers can watch penalty kicks!
Lisandro Martinez has been impressive all tournament. Thought they would regret not playing Otamendi but they haven’t missed him in the slightest.
