Bayern also the first European side to beat a South American team in the competition.

was coming in to say about some bloke pointing out he thought a South American side could winnit and that South American clubs were unbeaten. In same bit I saw re South Americans in WCC, last win by non-European in 2012 but also no Argentine win, not really a surprise

of course missed that things had now changed, but not as if I'm scrutinising the competition and results at a point at which "point" is a rather ironic term as it's pointless thus far

Inter Miami (beat Porto), Monterrey (level with Inter, should be below on alphabet surely?), and Mamelodi Sundowns (played a korean side whilst Europe played South America) are the only three clubs not European or South American above such a team in their group thus far

early days, pointless, meaningless even, but speaks volumes that even still "order" as one might predict it generally reigns - and Inter Miami should be renamed Inter Messi, without him would they even be punching at all let alone maybe above their weight

This does not feel like a World Cup at all, just some meaningless event only the South Americans seem to care for.

Feels worse than knowing that pointless shindigs like The Copa Emirates still exist, that this is still a thing.

Of course. Can't be mentioned often enough. ;)

In 10 mins I'll watch my 3rd match BVB vs Mamelodi Sundowns. German TV just mentioned that the Sundowns are the record champions of South Africa (their Bayern München :D).

The club sponsored flights for their fans that they can travel to the U.S. Not bad (hopefully they don't have Vuvuzelas with them )

And they did it all without signing Wirtz. Impressive.

You know, I didn't think I'd enjoy living rent free in your head, but when I arrived and realised that the property was empty I quite like it, so much space here, particularly between the ears. I'm putting a few pictures up

Mamelodi Sundowns give Dortmund a scare in the end .

Actually seems to have been a few decent games TBF .

should blinking hope so with 32 teams there! and of course the weather, as in Japan/Korea 2002 and other instances, bit of a leveller

supposed dry run for the World Cup, wonder if people will start wishing it gets moved especially as we have seen the signal of intent to maximise viewing over other considerations like players etc

A couple of gorgeous goals today:
    - Lautaro’s redirection off his boot laces with his back to net to tie things for Inter against the Japanese squad
    - Um Won-Sang’s header only one foot from ground late in the 1st half. (Will it be enough for the Korean side to upset Fluminese?)

would probably take the death of a fan or footballer for FIFA to do a damned thing about the playing conditions

Fifa Club World Cup: Weather raising major concerns in US tournament

not sure if it said it when they bought their tickets but despite the weather fans aren't even allowed to take water into the stadium, weather, I mean whether, they have to pay to fill up their sanctioned empty water bottles I don't know but would not surprise me if this is to maximise £££

if FIFA aren't careful and do something ahead of the (proper/legit) World Cup then teams may pull out, fans not go, or both

is there an ideal time they can play that worldwide audience can all watch? probably not. isn't exactly going to aid the quality if the players are suffering from the heat

As for the heat, we had below average temps over here in late May, but now it’s ridiculously hot for June. Better had this been held in Brazil (for weather if not time) but of course it’s dry run practice for the 2026 WC organizers in USA so that wasn’t an option.

They will have to be playing games later in the day if possible but agree could be a few issues .

Remember the Jack Charlton touchline rant in the 1994 World Cup ?

The Austrian and Saudi clubs are kicking off right now (6 PM local Sunday) in Washington DC at 90 F (32 C) heat. They can be thankful that this match is not Monday or Tuesday where it is forecast to be 99 F (37 C) at 6 PM.

Nice warm up for Man City.
