I find it more awful than awesome that this "tournament" kicks off now.

Anyway, it's what it is and after all it's football so I'll watch it, at least the matches of the German teams.
Can't (and won't ) watch all of it because many of it are played at night here in Germany and I won't stay awake to watch e.g Al-Ahly vs Inter Miami at 2am here in the morning ;)

But I just checked the schedule for the German clubs for their first match:

Bayern vs Auckland City (NZ) is Sunday at 6pm CEST
Dortmund vs Fluminense (Brazil) is next Tuesday also at 6pm CEST.

So that's convenient for watching here in Germany (must be high noon kick-off time when it's 6hours difference. Very early kick-off for the players, though)

Fluminense is exotic enough to get me interested. Not the usual international opponents for both ;)

Doubt it. They won't go all out, they'll rotate and it'll also replace a lot of the hard pre season running.

I guess but looking at the groups the last 16 will basically be all CL teams probably so will be intense.

I like it conceptually although I don't think it'll deliver in reality. Has potential to be a fun mix of teams, styles and cultures but it also has a real chance of being a bunch of glorified friendlies with star players half arsing it.

It's obviously a blatant case of FIFA being jealous of Uefa and pure corporate greed. All top level football is though so I'm not even holding that against it.

The only way to view this is as a very lucrative set of friendlies. I can't imagine anybody really cares to view it as a proper tournament. I'll watch it - friendlies are entertaining but not going to be too invested. Be hard to watch a lot of it anyway with matches kicking off a 2-3am in the morning.

Has anyone asked the players if they want to take part.

Unless if is one of the major international tournaments we get every two years then should imagine many just want a break from 9 months or should that be 10 months of football.

Winners make $125m and there's a $1b prize pool for the entire event. I'd imagine the players will be well compensated and probably care less about these extra games than say cup replays or early rounds of the league cup.

We'll see but as I said before I'd imagine that the European clubs will change how they run their pre season camps. I'm sure these games will literally replace friendly games for some.

In FIFA's head this is meant to be something as big as the international tournaments in the off-years. Although the next one is currently scheduled for 2029 rather than 2027. I suppose we'll get an idea of whether that expectation will be met come Sunday morning.

Note for anyone - I've just signed up to DAZN, crucially the FTA option only allows you to watch live matches - if you want to watch replays you need to pay.

If they want this to be this big a deal it needs to be every two years. I don't see any reason to wait until 2029 for edition two when they could easily stage one in 2027 and then you'd have these in the off-years for International football. Would be perfect.

Don't like this whole thing because of player welfare but at least it's only every 4 years. Kinda pointless tournament. We all know the winners will come from maybe 6 or 8 top European teams. Does this tournament mesn that there will be no yearly fifa club world cup? The one around Christmas time

logically if they are bumping it up, maybe to trial for the proper World Cup, then it should be every four years. Too often will take away any value, you can't seriously have a continental competition AND a World competition for clubs every season, it is insane

whether I fully got the ticket pricing thing from reading a beeb article earlier some might worry about their ticket pricing system and it being applied wider

start prices high, the more appealing games with higher prices, they were saying a ticket for Madrid's opener I think it was currently available at £155 (? checked again, £166)but other games at £25, supply and demand which is not a new concept but will rip fans off if there is no fixed structure

"Some matches, understandably, appear to have attracted more interest than others. Tickets for Real Madrid's first match against Al-Hilal - also at the Hard Rock Stadium - are only available for in excess of £166."

can understand it more for eg PSG vs Atletico (cheapest is £60) but if fans of the clubs are travelling that will hit pockets hard on top of travel costs, and is pretty steep for local yanks who may not support either

Club World Cup: How seriously is expanded Fifa tournament being taken?

find it funny he suggests fans would criticise prices being "too low", what a tool

beeb poll has "won't be watching" on 59% and only 5% keen, is only a poll but 12 times as many can't be arsed as can. I was looking at TV guide early this morning, spotted some of the games before rapidly concluding who gives a....... even if there are some big clashes it won't be anything you don't see in Champions League or even maybe domestic leagues as the competition progresses and maybe might keep an eye on who reaches the final

had to laugh at gauging how people feel about it by asking eg Kane, participating and making a very public comment so hardly likely to say "wish I wasn't here, big dog tu.... of a competition, where's the nearest beach...?"

well they'll be on tour, some of the early games will be lower level opposition (even if they might cause an upset) and if there's plenty of money then pretty much will be competitive friendlies and decent financial reward.......

mancs went off on a tour not long after the season ended, damp squib of one but shows how the clubs may well fill any voids they can to fill their coffers (just checked, last game of season 25th May, their friendlies 28th and 30th, and with 72.5k at the first not a surprise)
