I like the look of the new match engline stuff but the fact they haven't shown a winger dribbling against a fullback whilst talking about the new animation stuff makes me think it might not be ready yet. Seems that pretty much every feature that goes into fm starts out half baked and then gets fully realised over the next year or two.

The data hub thing seems like a good example of that. Seems far more user friendly/fun to interact with now.

Personally don't really mind buying it yearly myself. It's less money than your standard full price game and I play it more than a majoirty of full price games I do buy.

I think I remember something like that, reworking it under the hood so that they'll be able to do more in the future. They're never going to make it significantly better graphically though because they know the hardware people are using to play their games. I honestly don't recall it being a major cause of slow down though. Thought that was always database size that slowed things down tbh. I have a good but not spectacular pc and pretty much always max out the database. It only becomes slighly annoying between days during transfer windows.

I've just bought FM22 - I managed to find it online at £25.85. Much cheaper than Steam is at £35 for pre order (£40 after release) so if you're planning to buy, maybe save yourself 10 or 15 quid.

Website is ShopTo, never used them before but looked legit when I checked out reviews. All good, I got my Steam code instantly and have already redeemed it, ready for when the beta comes out.

Now here's a noteworthy feature reveal. If it works well it'll make long term games a lot more fun.

I dream of the day an FM game will see your wingers actually square it instead of shooting from ridiculous angles all the time.

In theory that is solved by having wingers with high teamwork (and probably vision/technique) stats as well as having the 'look to pass rather than shoot' trait trained on. Not that I've ever managed to get that working regularly myself.

Wingers are mostly glory boys though that care more about their hair than their team anyway so I've found it's best to go with their nature instead of pushing against it. I've had a lot of success playing them in narrow systems with wing backs overlapping. They basically get in positions that strikers would so less lacing it from stupid angles.

FM22 beta is live! (for anyone who pre-purchases)

Hoping to get a couple of hours in tonight before bed, which of course is always risky when you need to be up at 6... but I never learn.

As somebody that saw a lot of last year's match engine - animation wise this year's is a lot better. Shame the 1v1 dribbling animations aren't there yet but I suppose it's not surprising, SI develop things like that over years and this is just a first step.

Oh how I wish they developed that side of the game for modern hardware and not 10 year old work laptops.

I like the setup so far, I'm just struggling to get going with it. I think it's more of a reflection of my overall feeling of football rather than the game itself though :(

When I get like that with FM I pick a high ish reputation and start unemployed applying for all jobs, wait for something random that jumps out at you.

2nd season with Swindon. Won L2 with the default squad (had no choice due to a transfer embargo, I also turn the summer window off so everyone starts with what they have anyway) currently top of L1 undefeated after 10 games.
So if anyone is doing a L2 save, I'd recommend signing anyone from the Swindon squad, or just starting as Town if you fancy the challenge of an embargo.

I've signed Matt Jay from Exeter, Alfie Kilgour from Bristol Rovers, Luke Dreher from Palace on a free, Will Boyle from Cheltenham, Brandon Fleming from Hull and a few loanees. Everyone is handling L1 no problem.

I've started a journeyman type save - starting unemployed with zero badges and having 1 or 2 seasons at each club, hoping to move up club reputations by half a star each time.

Started off at Cefn Druids in the Welsh Premier (1/2 a star rep), and the board expected a mid table finish. 12 team league with a late season split, I spent the first half of the season losing and barely scraping draws, sat in the relegation zone barely keeping touch with the rest. Started with a 4-4-2 counter style but moved to a 4-3-3 possession mid season which seemed to stop the rot. After the league split I managed to find some decent form and eventually finished 8th with a massive gap away from the drop. Quarter finals in both cups which met board expectations.

Good loanees helped, Harry Bell, Luke Urey, Rhys Williams (Connah's Quay, not Liverpool) all coming in for the season. I left the club after just one season because without those loanees we'd have been toast, and the only two decent midfielders (Baio, Vieira) weren't renewing their contracts. Cody Ruberto up front probably saved us with his goals, and Kane Lewis is a decent right back, but that's it.

Currently on the lookout for club #2... hoping for a bit more luck.

Got this on a Black Friday deal, and about half way through my first season.

Always start as City just to get a feel for things, but soon get bored as it's not much of a challenge. Only thing I've done transfer-wise is buy Haaland for £96m, he's currently on 36 goals in 24 games (49 in 31 if you include Internationals), averaging a goal every 50mins on pitch

Like the skin this year too.

Looks like I'm going to have to start again as somehow I've managed to delete my Sports Interactive folder. I did some cleaning up of my drives in the week and must've deleted the SI folder by mistake. I usually keep my files backed up on an external HDD but hadn't got around to doing FM 2022's folder yet, it's too soon. Nothing major lost, just the beta Man Utd save and the start of the journeyman, which I was coming up to the end of season 2 managing at Beti Kozkor, a team in the Tercera Division in Spain, which is broken up into regionals. It would've been a fair midtable finish so no grand stories of promotions or cup runs were lost.

I have a few options - I like to manage HFX Wanderers in Canada which is a bit of an FM tradition for me. SortitoutSI have just released an English tier 10 database for this year too so that's always worth having a prod around.

Does FM22 keep crashing for anyone else? It happens at random times but most of the times it happens when the game's starting-up. Graphic drivers are up-to-date and besides, I have a proper gaming laptop that runs far more graphics and CPU heavy games with 0 hitches. It's just FM of all games that's giving me headaches.

I have recently started a new save on CM 01/02, playing on the original database. I think I last played it 7 or 8 years ago on an up to date edited database but I wanted to start again back in 2001 this time around.

I do this save almost every year. Here is how it is going so far in 2030.

Hoping I get wrecked in the play offs as my squad is no where near good enough for the Prem.

So when I download the logos from Sortitoutsi do I need to download the updates to them or just the most recent one?
