Good race. Not heard the actual telemetry reporting for Piastri’s braking and on first look it looked very stupid, but the more angles I see the more I think it’s very harsh! I still don’t fully understand if they wanted to neutralise the race when the heavy rain hit earlier on, why not just put a VSC out ?

Lando did what he needed to though, kept the car on the road and capitalised when the opportunity arose

Absolutely buzzing for Hulk. Never thought he’s the second coming of Jesus like others have over the years, but he’s undoubtedly a brilliant driver and it would’ve been criminal for him to never get a podium. Outstanding drive! Sauber’s first since Kobayashi in Japan 2012 and it’s propelled them up to 6th in the constructors!

Gasly continues to impress me ever since leaving the main RB team. Great quali yesterday and great race from him. Be interesting to see how he fares against Bottas if he does get Colapinto’s seat as has been suggested this weekend. Stroll was very Button-esque at times today just pitting to be on the fastest tyre at that exact time, good work from him today

Piastri has to hold his hands up there, perhaps once he's calmed down he will do. He's sped up and then pretty much done an emergency stop in wet conditions, could've been a nasty collision on another day.

Norris didn't put a foot wrong the entire race and deserved it, kept himself in the right place and took his opportunity for his maiden British GP win.

Hulkenberg finally breaking his 15 year podium duck  a great sporting story, he's had his share of bad luck over the years.

Turned into an enjoyable race, perhaps the race directors and safety cars were a bit too cautious early on but that's just how it is now. Safety has to be the priority 100% but wet races are the best races, they'd do well to remember that.

No surprise to see all 5 rookies out. Pointless having wet weather tyres as nobody wants to pit onto them and risk getting caught up in a safety car when they’re so trigger happy with vsc and full safety car. Everyone would rather tip toe round on inters even though it’s more dangerous

Bunching up behind the safety car actually made things more dangerous when the rain came down. Gone from a spread out field to a bunched up one with inherently more spray and lack of visibility. Strange

    Same as in Australia.

Couldn’t cope with the rain ?

There’s got to be some reason the rookies are struggling in the rain. I’d imagine their junior careers in F2 and F3 etc don’t get the same exposure and freedom to wet weather racing compared to your Hamilton, Alonso etc. Even Verstappen, Stroll and Gasly who came through 10 years ago the landscape has changed massively since then.

We know that Hadjar is really quick and shown to be very capable. Bortoleto had made a decent fist of it against Hulkenberg up until now

On the Piastri one, I think it was about right. You can't slam the brakes on like that in those conditions. Might not have been quite so drastic in the sun but when you brake like that in those conditions, the cars aren't stopping very easily.

Even Nico in the cool down bit said that he nearly went in the back of someone. Piastri could quite easily have slowed down over an extra 5/10 meters and it still all be fine.

Norris might have had the pace anyway. After that restart, he was close to him, though Piastri was 10,15 seconds ahead before that safety car.

I was torn on wanting Hamilton or Hulkenburg to get 3rd. I think I wanted Hamilton to get it though, he looks good at times in the race. Strange choice to pit for slicks that early. He was in a race with Hulkenburg and the undercut was never going to work, so you might as well follow, copy, and then have the much faster car on the same tyres.

    Crikey.

Christian Horner is SACKED by Red Bull, a year on from wife Geri standing by him despite sex texts scandal | Daily Mail Online

Christian Horner is set to be sacked as the boss of Red Bull.

The sensational news ends the longest reign of Formula One team principals in the sport and comes a year after the scandal that engulfed him over texts he apparently sent to a female employee.

An announcement is expected in the next hour.

Horner has been at the top of the team since its inception in 2005, and has led them in two phases to world championship success through Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, eight drivers’ championships and six constructors’ championships.

He survived accusations of coercive behaviour towards his colleague – and was twice cleared in internal investigations of wrongdoing.

He was told by his wife, Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, to make the controversy ‘all go away’ – a feat he pulled off for 16 months. But, with results poor, his star driver Max Verstappen unhappy with progress, he has now paid the price.

His £12million-a-year job was secured by support from the Thai majority owners of Red Bull but that seems to have worn out.

He was in charge at Silverstone only this past weekend, seemingly master of all he surveys, including at the annual Clay Day event last Wednesday, close to his own country house in Oxfordshire.

Red Bull have been contacted for comment but have not responded.

According to reports from German outlet Bild, the energy drink company are thought to be currently negotiating the termination of Horner's contract, which will end with immediate effect.

Furthermore, he is expected to have said his farewells at the team's Milton Keynes' factory at 10am on Wednesday morning.

It is thought that the ultimate decision-maker was Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO of the Red Bull Group, with owners Chelerm Voovidhya and Mark Mateschitz, as well as key figure Helmut Marko, have all been informed of the news and are thought to support it.

I'm shocked that they've sacked him, we're probably watching the end of Redbull as a force imo. All the talent that made them what they were has left now.

I wonder if it's happened now because Max has already signed for Merc or if this is a condition of his to stay.

Or perhaps it's simply the total loss of form and talent as you said.

Well there's lots of rumours about Max to Merc rn but idk if it's not a last gasp roll of the dice to keep Max as Max's camp isn't happy with the things Horner has been doing.

They've lost a lot of talent last few years, Mateschitz's death, they've lost Wheatley, lost Newey, they've been bleeding engineers, it shouldn't be a surprise they've started struggling.

Couldn't happen to a more snidey bloke IMO....Will not miss his smug face one bit. I doubt this is for purely racing reasons as well.

Think it’s a concoction of things that’s caused this. Strange how it’s happened so suddenly but then there have been rumblings of internal power struggles within Red Bull ever since Mateschitz died in 2022

A couple of other people have also been let go apparently so sounds like a big shake up

He’s going to rock up at Aston though isn’t he let’s be honest

I think it has to have been an ultimatum from Verstappen that Horner goes or he does that's triggered this. If he had already signed for Mercedes, something would surely have leaked out by now and Verstappen's current position in the championship is not so desperate that there had to be a change with half the season still left.

Andrew Benson's BBC piece is interesting in the sense that it creates a picture of managerial errors that could, either individually or collectively, have been enough to persuade Red Bull to get rid of Horner. But if that is the case, I don't really see why it wasn't done earlier.

As for where Horner goes next, I can't imagine Adrian Newey would be too thrilled if he turned up at Aston Martin given the context of his own departure from Red Bull. I'd have thought it more likely he'll be out of things for quite a while now.

He's always struck me as being a pretty odious individual and I'm absolutely delighted that he's gone. I only hope the employee who made the allegations against him has had the satisfaction of outlasting him.

Think this pretty much all but confirms Verstappen is leaving, most likely for Mercedes too. It might have even been the trigger because without Max, the team really has nothing at the moment.

The other day a friend of mine said that Italian media were reporting that Max had already signed with Merc but I didn't read it for myself.
