Nice have come into some money with their shareholder. Galtier being from the south didn't need too much motivation to move (even though Nice struggled to pay Lille to let him go). It's a good deal for him as Nice really isn't a football place so not winning for a while won't have the (nonexistant) crowd on your back (also, their ground really is in the middle of nowhere). Waste of time for Galtier given his talent. He would have had a big challenge at Lyon. Peter Bosz's tenure hasn't started too great btw with a heavy 0-3 loss at Angers yesterday. That was probably Marseille's best half in years!
I saw that Lille/Nice game and was wondering about Galtier's move myself, as it seemed an odd one. Shocker for Lille, just seemed asleep from the start. If they're facing financial difficulties, surprised we've not seen any of those talented attacking players move, but still time I suppose.
Crazy scenes in the Nice Vs Marseille game...Payet hit with a bottle then he chucks the bottle straight back at the Nice ultras who storm the pitch ffs absolute bedlam.
Game now off I think with some Marseille players getting injured in the fighting . Seems to be a lot of issues with the ultras in France ?
People saying Payet overreacted initially...I've had a full plastic bottle thrown at me full pelt before, it ****ing hurts. Hitting you right in between your shoulder blades, from higher up, at that velocity with you having no idea it's coming would definitely be enough to make someone drop to their knees if from nothing else but the shock of it. What followed was mental. Nice should be banned from having fans in the stadium for 6 months - and it should be fairly easy to identify every person that was on the pitch. Nice need the book throwing at them here. Technically Payet shouldn't have thrown the bottle back at the fans but he was certainly provoked and is not the one in the wrong here. Marseille were totally right not to come back on the pitch and I hope that they get awarded the points. The return fixture will be tasty. Marseille fans aren't exactly angels themselves .
This season rather. I agree with that (although 6 months is a long time especially for ST holders who did nothing wrong) but you'd be surprised the amount of French fans (and good football people too not just morons trying to get a word in for retweets) who reckon Nice having to play yesterday's game behind closed doors (4-0 win vs Bordeaux) is a disgrace... Marseille is more of a football place with security used to dealing with full houses. This is what irks me about Nice: yes they have money but it's such an inexperienced place for big games that when they come, they don't have an effing clue how to manage the situation. Some fans went into the ground forcing their way past security and how they are allowed to carry bottles in the stands is beyond me. The guys who threw stuff at Marseille's players were part of an ultra group who, to me, is to blame for not calming them down (better said than done I know). The Ultra group did come out on social media and defend itself by stating that it is not responsible for its members behaving badly and that the kapo did tell the people in the stand not to throw stuff so fair play to them. There's also the question of the ref missing the opportunity to stop the game before things got out of hand (that's what happened at Montpellier vs Marseille, another heated South Coast game where the players did go in the dressing room for 15 minutes (Montpellier's fans threw stuff at Marseille players) but then came back out to play while the Montpellier head of security gave the fans a telling-off which worked). So talks of giving the points to Marseille are in order and that doesn't appeal to everyone either (Nice were 1-0 up and well in control of the game when the incident happened). To sum up, a lot of finger-pointing but no one has a real answer for what action to be taken against Nice. I wouldn't punish Marseille if I were the league; they didn't do anything wrong.
Nice docked 2 points (one suspended) , told to play games behind closes doors and Marseille players and coaches banned. Game to be replayed at a neutral venue. Nice docked points after Marseille brawl
Nice got away with it there. I sincerely hope they'll sort out their security for the next Marseille game (let's face it, the ground - which is in the middle of nowhere - is half empty most of the time). However, people seem to accept the decision and move on. Good.
