So MCFC won the title on goal difference (by 8 goals) and SAF goes into meltdown and says it will never happen again. The answer, apparently, is to score more goals, and so loads of money is given to Arsenal for RVP. Problem solved, and MUFC are currently the Premiership top scorers..............however, That only helps if you can defend as well, whereas (bottom 4 aside) only Norwich, Wigan and Fulham have conceded more goals so far. Yes they have had defenders out, but it is the whole team that defends, and so................ The end result is that their goal difference is +13, only marginally better than Chelsea and City. It will be interesting to see where this goes!!
I am sure a Man utd fan will expalin that their best defender is currently injured, and two of their other key defenders from last season have been and at the start of the season Michael Carrick was even used at centre back. I'm sure that doesn't affect a defence of course.
Stretfordend, oh dear! As a United fan I would be interested in what you really think, that is what a forum is about.
Eeeee let's go back to goal average to decide placings when level on points. Was far easier to work out.
I'd like to see how well City would have done if Kompany was injured all season and they played midfielder's in defence
I think you've claimed Ferguson wanted the goal difference improved, and United currently have the best goal difference in the League, but it's a 'myth' . . .
Just being phased out as i got into the game but that would have taken some working out in your head. Team A is 1.056 and team B is 1.043 and team A has just let in a goal. Do that on a piece of paper while at a game when the late goals are going in.
I'm sure it was the 1989 season (Michael Thomas goal game) when Arsenal snatched the title off us that we would have won if it had been still goal average will go and check.
Stretfordend, yes you do have the better goal difference, but the point I was making is that with the number of goals you have scored it should be better and I am interested to see if it makes any difference in the whole season. Tov3, It is about how the team defends and you are seriously lacking a quality deep lying midfielder, which leaves your defence too open in my view.
You could flip that on it's head though, the amount of goals you have conceeded (10) and the attacking talent you have at your disposal your GD should also be better. On a side note Goals For is still more important than Goals Against ask LFC and Arsenal in 89.
The ability to score goals is important if you are behind, maybe fergie with only 25+ years experience thought it might be an idea to have a few goalscoring options............................. You can organise a defence, make it tighter and hard to score against even with fairly average players, but generally speaking it is way harder to make average footballers into goalscoring machines.
I still find it amusing its perfectly fine for liverpool to spend 50m on a player but if someone like man city do it its a crime. Liverpool, man utd etc. must be craving for FFP so only themselves can spend big.
Haha, hardly seems relevant now when he is so consistently the main focal point of your back line. It's pretty telling also that apart from the allowed jitters at the end of the season in the run in City certainly looked at their most vulnerable when Kompany was out for those four games was it round the January period....Personally think that City missing Kompany at the back would be as important as when Vidic is missing...
