You can talk about numbers and average point totals all you want but if you actually watch the matches and performances you see that ourselves, Arsenal, United, City all have played poorly while Spurs, Leicester and West Ham have played incredibly. And fair enough, nobody's saying you didn't deserve to finish above us this season. But it makes sense to expect these performances to regress towards the mean ie ours improve and yours falter. Especially when you consider extraneous circumstances like how the season ended, incoming managers, the transfers that have been rumoured, all of it points towards you lot having a much tougher go of it next season.
I simply don't get this logic at all, sorry. Why will the performance of this team, under this manager, inevitably falter because we weren't very good 10 years ago? Our mean means nothing, because it's based on completely different circumstances.
If Liverpool's performances "regress towards the mean" in the true sense of the phrase, they'll definitely finish behind Spurs next season. Again.
Well read up then. Who's mentioned anything about 10 years ago? I don't think it's unrealistic to think Spurs won't play out of their skin for another 38 games, just like I don't think it's realistic to expect us to be so inconsistent once Klopp gets his signings in and has a preseason with the squad. If you're so convinced nothing will change next season why don't we just cancel it and Spurs can retain third place into eternity. It's a good thing it doesn't work like that isn't it!
Spurs haven't played out of their skin this season, just performed to their usual level compared to most of the last decade. We'll at least be of similar quality next season, probably improve. If that is enough to keep others behind remain to be seen. I still expect to see an inconsistent league next season. Arsenal will be their old same, Leicester will face new challenges with european football, while Manchester will need time with their new managers. Liverpool will have the benefit of no european distraction, but it's not a given that they will be much stronger next season. I'd say the only team we know for sure will improve is Chelsea.
Chelsea and United will be a lot better and right up there with Conte and Mourinho. Arsenal will be Arsenal. Spurs will be Spurs. Leicester will more than likely tail off to some extent. Liverpool and City I think are the hardest to judge but they have top managers in place.
Strictly speaking the 'mean' for this set of circumstances over the last few years would be our season out of Europe, so second.
Might as well stick it here: Tottenham Hotspur to stage Euro nights at Wembley Stadium during 2016-17 season - About Football Association | The FA Where do Chelsea go now?
Also have the option to play league games at Wembley in 17-18? How depressing. Not the way anyone wants to get to Wembley.
because that few people represents our whole fanbase. It isn't but then there aren't any better alternatives if we want to stay in London for the season which we do. Milton Keynes was a suggested alternative which is an even more depressing option. Most away sides will only have to visit the once and from a fan's level you can make the decision not to make the trip. Spurs fans will have to be there all season or sacrifice a season of watching football. Sad that we'll also not see another European night at White Hart Lane.
The magic of Wembley eh.. I like how they pretend they are doing it for the increased revenue, which they will then reinvest in grassroots - complete bullshit.
We've still not had confirmation on our stadium. Was expecting this months ago so I'm not sure if there's been some problems come up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I guess Spurs will take the short term inconvenience of playing at Wembley (and it's hardly a big inconvenience still being in north London at a huge stadium) for the long term gain of having the new stadium they really need if they want to push into the elite level on a consistent basis. A bit like most West Ham fans are gutted to leave Upton Park but recognise the huge opportunity the Olympic Stadium gives them to expand the club's ambitions and gives them a realistic chance of becoming future top 4 club.
