Half-expecting Everton to turn up and do a massive 6”4’ Shaun Dyche shaped pile of poo all over us tomorrow. Set-pieces could be interesting. Anyway, if we can get some football going who knows. Apparently Tuanzebe is out for ‘a few months’ after his washing-up based mishap, it’s a big loss for us. He’s the one with the experience and the physicality in the back four and will be missed. Johnson has looked a bit undercooked so far, hopefully he can step up with a run of games. Anyway, football 3pm Saturday. Hooray.
Oliver gives a penalty to Ipswich then thankfully over turns it, awful original decision from Oliver.
Agreed. Thought it was a pen from the reaction of all the players but Clarke clearly kicks McNeil. Good game this.
No. That’s a penalty. Free kicks given outside the box for equivalent situations so why not in the box. We’ve shot ourself in the foot again though. The back 4 and Muric just don’t talk like Hladky did last year. Huge loss losing him to be a Burnley 2nd keeper…Christ knows why he left
Wonder what Sean Dyche after his complaints the other week about a penalty not being given for the same sort of incident.?
Going to pretty much repeat what I just posted in the relegation thread. I was surprised to see Oliver give the penalty didn't look like he could see a thing through the body of all the players. Couldn't really see the tangle of legs but thought there might have not been enough to overturn it, obviously not but from what I hear we can't complain. We were truly awful today and 0-2 flattered us immensely. First really worrying moment of the season for me and it was telling when the changes were made and we had 9 former League One players on the pitch we actually showed some fight although Everton had the game won by then. Thought Calvert-Lewin gave the perfect example to Liam Delap of how to play up front on his own, just missing a goal in the performance. The two centre mids were superb as well. Not really sure what we can do because our preferred formation of 4-2-3-1 isn't working. Maybe ditch the 10. 3 in the middle and Omari on the right. Going to be a long winter based on what we saw today.
We really were awful today, for all the plucky draws and battling performances this season that was absolute rubbish. The worst performance of the McKenna era, that I can remember anyway. We always fight back, keep going, not today. If Clarke takes his chance early on then it’s a different game but there you go. Can’t miss those at this level. Not been convinced about O’Shea so far at centre half but he was an utter car crash at full back. I said we’d miss Tuanzebe and we really did, Matt Clarke was an improvement on O’Shea when he finally got hooked but it was too late by then. Omari and Liam did well and fought hard but beyond that there really wasn’t much to shout about. Haven’t been angry about a performance for years but that was absolutely woeful today, we’re better than that. Going to be a long 7 months.
Tough result for the Ipswich guys - only thing I’d say is that Dyche teams can make any team look quite bad once they have a lead (I know Everton threw away leads early this season but for me that was an aberration). Ultimately you can play badly a lot in the Prem and stay up - dont give up the faith yet. (as a comparison - we’re yet to beat any of Everton, Wolves, Bournemouth or Brentford and lost to those four 7 times and we’ve stayed up )
Definitely calmed down a bit now but it was just that the performance was poor yesterday. We’ve been playing so well for a long time, above ourselves really I suppose so to see us play like that was a shock. Don’t mind losing games in this league so much against strong opponents but let’s at least play to our level and give a good account of ourselves. Don’t think we did that yesterday, and that really doesn’t happen very often. Anyway we’ll dust ourselves down and hopefully come back stronger. Need to get back to a more settled defence, and try to regain a bit of confidence.
I would go as far as to say that getting Dyched is a classic part of the modern premier league experience.
