Older VAR was bad, had so many game stoppages. Also calls being made which were borderline. If VAR didnt even look at your penalty appeal (I admit I must have missed this moment), then thats not right, they should still be looking at in the background whilst the game is still going, and then if they decide its a potential obvious mistake, the ref gets called to the monitor. The new VAR is supposed to let mistakes that are not obvious go with the on field decision.
To me thats a penalty, although the game is weird, it often lets players push each other off the ball and does nothing. The ipswich player may have been able to stay on his feet as it looks like a dive which may have swayed the decision.
I said I’d say no more but the Leicester player made no attempt to get the ball too. If you speed it up, there’s no chance Chaplin stays on his feet. I’ll stop now
I wonder if Cooper is keeping an eye on Brandon Cover going great guns on loan as a right wing back, it's only league 2 but still if he wants an attacking right back he's an option
It's a penalty. Though I don't know why you think it wasn't looked at (perhaps because it wasn't given or because the game wasn't stopped) but VAR generally does look at anything in the box, but it doesn't have to stop play to do it.
Never a Penalty, he’s looking for it. No attempt to play the ball and actually jumped in the air. The telling thing for me is that just like the penalty Southampton fans were on about none of his teammates appealed. Correct decision although we didn’t deserve a point as there was only 1 team in it.
It’s a penalty, all day. Phillips, hmmm. Can see why the 2 yellows were given. Thing is, if the ref makes these decisions then whatever. But the fact that there’s a whole layer of refs above the guy on the field and it’s still wrong, what’s the point. As above, it’s a farce.
What? In the replay of the incident he has 4 teammates in the shot and 3 of them throw their arms up to appeal for it. So by your own logic, despite your eyesight, it is a penalty, cos the telling thing actually does happen here.
Throw their arms up?. I suppose it a matter of interpretation, I thought they were just showing exasperation at their own player. He even adopted the classic dead man play.
Phillips should have gone fore the elbow smash to the back of Bounonotte's head and it was probably a penalty though I've seen it given as often as not like today
I think that is a fair summary as the MOTD guys also said.. Think even Gary kind of knew there was good fortune there.
Still annoyed Some good performances yesterday though, especially Johnson who looked like a different player to what we’d seen before. Great to see Chaplin back in the side as well, love him to bits. Delap is a beast, when he picks up the ball deep and turns and runs at people he’s very difficult to defend. Muric’s distribution still needs work, maybe it will improve with a bit more confidence.
Was a penalty but we should have had a penalty in the corresponding fixture last season on Boxing Day to go potentially 2-0 up before the late equaliser so swings and roundabouts
