Any of you been over to Jersey (Channel Islands) ? We've just booked a short getaway for October so any recommendations appreciated. Looks like there's a few interesting things that should make for a nice trip
I lived in the Channel Islands for twenty five years, the last five of which were in Jersey. Rather than write a 10,000 essay, tell me what you’re interested in doing and I’ll give you suggestions..
Interests are pretty varied but I think we'll base ourselves in St Helier so we'll probably spend some time there and then weather dependent get out to the coast for at least one day. So I guess best beaches, any worthwhile museums / castles to visit (I think we'll definitely do the war tunnels) and any places to eat/drink that you'd recommend. Appreciate the latter might be useless if you haven't been there recently. Or anything else you think is worth seeing whilst we're there. I don't know much about the place to be fair.
The War tunnels is a must do, Jason. It used to be called The Underground hospital but it turns out it was a lot more sinister than that, well worth the visit. I lived in St Helier and the best places for a drink is The Yacht (outside for cocktails if the weather is nice) and just up from the is a bar called The Ha'penny bridge, if you're lucky a local artist by the name of Lloyd Yates might be playing - he's brilliant. The zoo is very good and a nice nod to the work that Gerald Durrell did. My favourite bays are St Brelades and St Ouens, the latter has a cafe called El Tico which does legendary breakfasts. Up north there's a great chippy at Rozel bay, and if you like walking there's some really nice coastal paths. Keep a look out to see if there's a local market at Havre de Pas. You can walk there from St Helier and worth a look. If you're feeling lazy you can just drive around the middle of the island, there are lovely narrow roads that give a lovely continental feel and the names of the roads will make you fell like you're in France. Get out of the car and look around the quiet bits of St Peter and St John, it's lovely..
Thanks mate, appreciate the recommendations. Kind of wish I was going for longer now but it'll be nice getting away for a few days
