I don't think anyone knows what to expect from us this season. I think you could make a good case for us finishing just about anywhere on the table. Our first eleven looks decent, but we've already got three players out with long term injury, we've got two unproven goalkeepers and not a lot of depth in a few positions.
I’m sort of just taking Grimsby fans’ word for it that they’ll be good this season, they seem more excited than their squad looks on paper. A lot seems to be on Kabia’s shoulders upfront and he could be class, sounds like he’s had a great preseason but he’s not got a brilliant CV. Certainly wouldn’t shock me if they were up there by any means but the squad, to an outsider, looks…fine?
Scared of their fans on here I reckon. No shame in it, I'm in the same boat. A couple of seasons ago they signed a load of shit, I made a tongue in cheek comment about Paul Hurst not seeing Christmas. Went out for dinner. Came back to notificiations galore, I had to go into old forum witness protection for a week. Anyway. Roll onto to Halloween and Hursty was already on very thin ice. He was gone not long after.
Our signings nowadays are very much under the radar and our confidence is due to trusting the process and the fact that Artell is so good at improving players. We've only lost Denver Hume from the squad that missed out on the playoffs on the final day and he's been replaced by Jayden Sweeney who should be decent in this division. Elsewhere, we've largely addressed the problems we had last season. Pym in to replace two crap keepers. Kabia and Amaluzor to give us a bit of pace and physicality up top. I don't think there is a massive expectation on Kabia to carry us at all though, he's not even nailed on to start. We've got Vernam, Burns, Svanthorsson and Amaluzor all playing in those positions to share that burden of those wide slots. Turi who we signed in Jan is now half a year further into life in the UK and at the club, Jamie Walker gives Kieran Green competition and Lavelle sounds like he'll fit into how we play. Proof will of course be in the pudding but I think we've added well to an already settled squad.
Personally think our squad is marginally better than last year based on retaining everyone of note and adding some quality and some calculated risks - think how well we do might depend on the strength of the league to a degree - will it be better or worse ?
Does this mean we(Barra) have finally reestablished the “under the radar” status again…..happy days !!
As we have been unable as yet to sign the Erling Haaland of league two from Swindon I am downgrading our finishing position to 8th.

We are higher in the bookies odds than most people's predictions tables. Get the feeling that will be optimism off the back of the wembley win when people are placing their bets
Like last season I reckon we will stay up. Another season beckons where Jenkins keeps us in the black, which is reflected in our squad. Rumours of incoming investment from a County fan done well based in the US. Fingers crossed. 1. MK 2. Notts 3. Bristol 4. Chesterfield 5. Swindon 6. Colchester 7. Salford 8. Walsall 9. Gillingham 10. The bookies are dead sloppy with lower leagues i reckon lump on a team you think will do well if you have any knowledge I think Barnet would be worth a go personally in terms of risk v reward
New on this site but not to this exercise. When I've tried this in the past I have been as close to totally wrong as it gets, as have my predictions for my team (Grimsby Town) for the past 3 years (my forecast 15, 9, 19 - actual result 11, 21, 9). So no insults please. Anyway: 1. Bristol Rovers 2. MK Dons 3. Gillingham 4. Cambridge United 5. Shrewsbury 6. Notts County 7. Walsall 8. Colchester United 9. Salford City 10. Swindon Town 11.
