I've said it a couple of times on here, but what Cox has done on this budget and getting the right components in terms of player size and athleticism for the relevant area of the pitch they play in is to be lauded. That game could have been 3-0 Wealdstone, 5-2 Southend and just about any other result in between; entertaining, if unbelievably frantic. Alfie Massey is a cheat code at this level, he must be the one exception of a player actually living up to the hype fans of the parent club put on him. Far too good for the NL. Nathan Tshikuna also excellent tonight too. Big decision now for Cox ahead of Saturday as to whether Baptiste remains in goal, or is dropped in favour of Covolan. Southend fans/others watching - any idea why Cox and Maher were both sent off in the aftermath of the penalty award?
Famous last words, but Scunthorpe away can't be as bad as our previous visit there. That's in my top 3 of worst Wealdstone performances since we've been back in the NL.
I think punches were exchanged is what we are hearing this end, though over what, no idea. It can't surely have been the awarding of the penalty, as it was a stonewall. That's all we have heard this end so far.
Interesting, 4th official reported it to the ref and he was quick to send both off, so that would stack up.
Apparently it's a year since we had a penalty awarded for us. Somehow doesn't surprise me with this league. Been two against us this season, one stonewall, one dodgy
Love a BELT meltdown on their own forum, chapeau to anyone posting on ShrimperZone and referencing 'Teams Like Wealdstone' - that's become a term of endearment for us. Also really encouraging to see how many opposition fans have mentioned how physical we are, that's something we've been crying out for for years. Watch both of Southend's goals when the highlights are fully shown (first goal is earlier on in this thread), they're howlers. Covolan isn't the answer.
What a conundrum for Wealdstone, stick with that horror show keeper from last night or put in Covolan, like choosing between diarrhoea and projectile vomiting.
Maher encroached into our technical area and laid hands on Cox, Cox pushed back, per post match interview.
Shots at Truro tonight. Frustrating it’s a midweek, unfortunately can’t make it but will be watching on DAZN. No idea what you’re going to get with us at the moment, scoring and conceding for fun. Think we’ll edge it tonight though, 3-1 win.
Apparently I was wrong about Haughton, had a good game last night; that's what you get from commenting after only seeing updates. Mark Bowen's shown his worth with recruitment; was not at all convinced when he was announced.
Sounds like Eastleighs player is doing okay which is great news. Our player returned back on the bus and didn’t need to go to hospital. It would be insane if they make us play the fixture again, the game was 1-1 with 2 minutes of added time left. Leave it at 1-1
I haven't got any idea what Kev's beef was. Surely not the pen, I don't think there was any Shrimper that thought it wasn't a pen, sure the ref took his time in giving the decision, but that was because Stones still had possession and he wanted to play advantage to see if anything else developed for you. Good piece of reffing for a change, in my book. So unless something was said to provoke Kev, this is totally on him and I would totally react as Cox did if I was in his position, as I say, if the facts are as above.
Shots at Truro. Shame it’s midweek, but is relatively local, I guess… Yet another roll of the dice, hopefully an unchanged team, albeit getting it together at the back. Probably scoring for fun, but conceding keystone-cops fashion as usual. So how about… 3-3 again?
Feel like any game that needs abandoning in added time should just be declared at that point, unless there are extreme circumstances like 20 added on
It's far from a "BELT Meltdown" Since we have a membership on Shrimperzone of over 9,000, some will obviously be guests and some will have sadly passed away, but for arguments sake let's say there are 2,000 regular active members. Then there are going to be a number of mixed views and sure some are going to be BELTish, the we shouldn't be in this league brigade, if you will. But for every post about last night from that point of view, there are an equal number of views giving the Wealdstone deserved credit for the result, Wealdstone being the better team. So in the same way, as I could generalise about all Stones fans last night with the reports of the abusive and threatening Wealdstone fans post match outside the ground, because they've taken a "scalp", Small club syndrome. I know that is not the case. Same as our element that goad fans of opposing teams, that is not applicable to the whole Shrimper fanbase. Perhaps you should realise that too. Out of the Wealdstone fans on here, all of whom are respectful and on the whole easy to talk to on a forum of many different views of football, let alone our respective clubs, same as was the Stones fan who came on the board last night, post match, made an opinion and got "liked" accordingly. You are always going to get a debrief from fans after any match and with football being a game of emotions, they are going to be of varying viewpoints against the footballing spectrum. The opposition and their tactics, key points good and bad in a game, tactics your own team got wrong, selections, injuries etc. All of that doesn't constitute a meltdown across the board, but there will always be an element of amplified disappointment in any defeat from a segment of any fanbase. And that simply and obviously be seen if you have approaching 300 posts over 14 pages. Wish you well for the rest of the season except for the 90 odd minutes in the return at Roots Hall, where I would hope we have developed over the season, as we did last time around and deliver another similar performance and result.
Fair enough, will fully acknowledge it wasn't a collective across the Southend fanbase, but some absolutely over the top reactions which would have been given in the heat of the moment. Still amusing either way. Anyone from our end giving it to Southend fans outside of the ground last night is an idiot, thankfully that wasn't something I saw or heard.
