I bet most ordinary people from El Salvador love the fact these gang members are being rounded up and go off to live the rest of their lives in hell hole prison. They dont mess about with giving them a pool table or a telly in their cells.
That's beside the point, the point is is that if we actually had political will we could have expanded prison capacity already and we should stop accepting the absurd slowness it takes for the government to do anything.
I'm trying my best to understand politics and participate in these discussions but the majority of it is lost on me and probably always will be tbh. I know it is all agendas and narratives and people wanting to be loyal to whatever stretch of grass they're sitting on - like football tribalism it is one side against the other. Maybe some of the left are unwilling or reluctant to call out the Manchester attack because God forbid it'd mean having a shared opinion and a bit of common ground with the right? It seems stupid to me if someone does something so odious and terrible then we all should be united and together in taking a stand skin colour and religion/birth place shouldn't matter but I can see now it does it is defining factor in politics and these crimes.

Yeah you might be right. I only dipped my feet in because the international breaks they are boring as **** and needed to pass some time. Then the digital id thing irritated me so had to have my say on that then it snowballed a little. But it probably isn't something I am gonna stay involved in it's too messy and so much division between members.

Indeed, 14 years of Tory austerity which saw prison populations go higher and higher with no new prisons built to cope with it, I can't believe this Labour government hasn't done anything about it after 15 months. As for the 'point', we don't treat prisoners like animals, shackled and hooded whilst being beaten all day, because that's not the way civilised people treat their fellow human beings.
It would take 15 months to design and plan a project as complex as a prison, never mind actually finding a site, developing it then erecting the buildings.
How do you know how bad it would be if they didn't ? Looking at the reasons some of the scum in Salvadorian prisons are banged up they long ago lost any reaon to expect "humane" treatment. Let them rot in their own shit. As for the labour government, they don't seem to have done anything in 15 months.
