It’s the same model Brighton have been very successful with tbf we’re just able to target the more elite prospects. It will take time to see results but I think we should have a few really big hits in the end.
Sterling, Neto, Mudryk, Palmer, Madueke.....with Estevao to come next summer. They are going to have to move one of them on because I don't see where the minutes are to keep them all happy. It's probably Mudryk but would there be a market for him?
Think most of us expected Neto to go this Summer and can't begrudge him that after staying for as long as he has. Great player with the only question mark around him being his injury record but maybe that will improve if he is not expected to play every game he is fit for. Just need to make sure we use the money to get a replacement and a quality CB.
Stupid fee. We could've got more than that even with his injury record. Such a shame. Ah well. Hopefully we get a high quality replacement in as we'll be well short if we try to muddle on with the current options.
I don't have much of a beef with Chelsea's approach regarding the talented young players in the world, 18-21 year olds etc. My beef with this move is a matter of minutes and playing time here. Chelsea already have a plethora of expensive talent in the wide areas. I just don't see how you keep those guys happy. Neto is costing €60m....he's going to expect to play. What now happens to the other guy you paid over €60m for? Or the guy you're paying £325k a week? Don't get me wrong, if Chelsea have buyers lined up for a Mudryk or Madueke then it's ok but right now, it just feels like a potential headache to me. And I know Chelsea will have scope to mass rotate in the Europa Conference but £30, 40, 50m footballers don't want to settle for only Europa Conference football.
No they won't. There are rules. 25 man squad Plus u21s you are allowed to have on the b list and those need to be there 2 years min. They will have a premier league Squad level to rotate and no more. All those players are going to rot. Eventually this will be seen for what it is.
Depends if the club want to cut their loses. Mudryk's remaining book value next summer will be £40-45m on top of £100kpw wages. Easily the most difficult to sell. Sterling will be on his final 2 years next summer and its been no secret the directors are looking to fix the Boehly/Tuchel errors of the first window. Madueke I can see them selling next summer given he's at decent wages and remaining book value would be £20m. Eventual plan, outside looking in, is to sell Sterling and Madueke next summer. Mudryk and Estevao the only ones who offers no versatility across the attack. LW - Neto/Mudryk CAM - Nkunku/Paez RW - Palmer/Estevao
Yeah, I agree. It’s very risky signing players before moving others on first. Ideally, I think we’d like to move on Sterling and Mudryk but I’m not sure what market there will be for them. Especially when it’s clear we want to sell. I think we’ll try and shift Madueke at some point too. Maybe we’ll wait until Estevao arrives next summer but I wouldn’t rule out this summer either. He’s one of the players who probably has a few suitors.
Still think someone needs to get sacked for the Mudryk signing. Outrageous at the time and outrageous now.
48 players now then is it? Fan of Neto but as has been said, his injury record is a red flag given the fee he is commanding. At this point though Chelsea are engineering the same situation that screwed Potter over. Unless they manage to sell/loan/release about 15-20 players between now and September.
