Paul Merson absolutely adamant that Man United should sign Mateta.

Fu(k off mate. Why would he take a backwards step?

Meanwhile it looks like we'll be paying around 35% of Chilwell's wages for the rest of the season. If he can stay fit (big if) then I can see why the club have gone for it. We've needed some backup/competition for Mitchell for years and he's an experienced head who could ease the workload on TM. Could be handy for his set pieces as well.

Perhaps offers some sort of mobility in the position, then won't be one to kick up a fuss when he becomes backup to Rodri once he's back?

Looking like a quiet day for us. And with that, I’m immediately deleting twitter because the meltdown is going to be generational.

More of an 8 than a 6 anyway. I don't know about Barcelona but he's only played in a double pivot at Porto next to Varela or Eustáquio

Hmm. Well, with the age profile of that midfield they do need 8s as well, so maybe long term that's the reasoning, wouldn't be enough on his own you'd think then.

Very odd time to be trying to drop that kind of cash. Sort of crazy to turn it down when you’re in no kind of relegation trouble and he’ll go for a lot less in the summer - but also admire sticking to your guns when someone jumps in all unannounced on deadline day.

If they want to come back with another offer milk them for all you can.

It really is hotting up then.

Lots of action and hopeful punts.

As I said earlier, Glasner would probably walk if we sold him at this point. We're trying to add another CB, not lose one. He has form for kicking off when he's not backed by those upstairs so I don't see us entertaining any sort of bid unless it's outrageous. It's worth taking a hit in the summer if it means we keep Glasner.

I imagine Spurs' bid is stacked with instalments and nowhere near enough money up front anyway.

Jayden Danns has gone on loan to Sunderland after signing a new contract with Liverpool today. In other news, Liverpool not entertaining any late loan deals for Ben Doak and Kaide Gordon has gone on loan to Portsmouth after being let go by Norwich.

Some really good deals from Champ clubs today. Marcus Edwards to Burnley, Danns to Sunderland and Adingra potentially going there on loan as part of a deal for one of their young players as well. All should smash it at that level.

Edwards has seemingly been endlessly linked with big PL moves so that feels like a big coup. Adingra would improve probably 8 PL sides so that’s a huge coup as well.

Yeah surprised to see both, although neither have played loads of football recently. If they do well they'll both get top level moves in the summer you'd think.

Only time will tell regarding time for either of these boys.

I can't see danns getting much off Sunderland

    Tel to Spurs back on.

When it’s ten to two in the night club, everyone starts looking pretty.

Probably wishful thinking but I do wonder if we'll announce a new contract for Guehi today with a £60m-ish release clause in it. We did similar with Olise and got to keep him 'til the end of the season before he got his dream move in the summer. Clubs have already proven they'll pay £60-70m for him so he wouldn't be short of offers IMO. Win/win for both parties.

Seems like we chose deadline day to announce a Beyonce tour at the stadium. That'll soften the blow of missing out on other targets.

Are Arsenal not interested? Felt like it would've been a sure thing had they showed interest.
