Yeah I have said elsewhere but this is a 10/10 window for us. We've managed to keep most of the squad together having only sacrificed one key player for PSR and have now filled the squad with quality which is something we really lacked last season. There is now no player who can feel comfortable that their place is guaranteed each week and no hiding places for the management/coaching team with this quality at their disposal.
7.5 out of 10. we wasted so much money last summer that I kept my expectations realistic, hence the decent score Massively reduced wage bill. Reduced squad age. Lost 1 first team player (kudus who was average last season) but Summervilles back this season and we also bought in diop, who’s been fantastic so far. Added fernandes and hermanson who are straight in to the team. KWP and Wilson were frees and they both look like starting next game, rather than just squad options. We are stronger now than in May, and have a few more players that suit potters philosophy
Hard to really rate the transfer window until you actually see the players in action so will do this in a few weeks.
I think you can do both.Have a view based on who the players are when they sign and then another view once you've seen them play. I think it's part of being a footy fan to make judgements on incoming players.
Not really. We know some of our incoming players are good but until you actually see them play with each other it's pretty difficult to judge if they're a good fit or not. Especially with players coming from other leagues.
One thing. Nobody is touching on so far is thst certain clubs need to advertise themselves as a club you can go to and make your name and move on. Some clubs or chief executives get a replacement for being hard to deal with for agents. It'll be interesting to see if theres any impact to Palace and newcastle or even brentford next time round.
The fact that we’ve just signed two players due to that marketing/advertising I would say no. Eze and Olise had no problem with their moves.
Said this in a different thread before the window closed so rather than repeat myself I'll just add to it now the window has closed. Muani has since signed to add another to the numbers. Solomon and Gil both left as expected. I think the window is a 7/10 for me. I don't think Frank was going to resolve everything in one window but it's a start. We've brought in some decent additions but the defensive cover and the actual quality of our attack still concerns me. Injuries again can break our season. As I said above, we have numbers but not necessarily enough quality for me. On that note, I don't know where better to put this but the result of the squad being too big is that we've had to leave six players out of our Champions League squad. I expect Bissouma to leave this window (overseas) and others have been excluded because of injuries but there's an uncomfortable conversation with Tel due to our squad size.
7/10 - we have not improved but the club has managed to (nearly) maintain squad strength while under the UEFA SCR penalty. Objective 1: Lower the wage bill and have a minus net spend to comply with the UEFA SCR agreement. I assume this has been achieved. Plenty of older players on big contracts have left. Objective 2: Keep the squad together. Kamara signed a new long term contract and Rogers, Watkins and Martinez (just about) are still at the club. The one big loss is Ramsey which is a sickener for everyone but he was more of a fringe/bench player last season. Objective 3: Replace the loan players. Rashford and Asensio have been replaced with two (sort of) permanent signings - Guessand and Elliott, Disasi replaced by Lindelof. Bizot - decent back up keeper. Suits our style more than Olsen did. Lindelof - doesn't set the pulses racing but has experience and will probably be more useful than most people think. Elliott - I'm not as big a fan of him as others are but he is young, a good footballer and plays with plenty of energy. Guessand - has plenty of potential but may take time to settle. Looks overawed by the Premier League so far. Sancho - will be better than Bailey by default. I just hope the effort levels are there.
7/10 or 8/10 , I think we've messed around but have done really good business in the end. Simons, Kudus, Palhinha and Kolo Muani are all players who improve our starting 11 against certain types of opponents. Goes to show how import that EL win was for us because I doubt we would have been able to sign any of them without CL. There's still a lot of questions to be answered but we've got a lot of options in midfield and going forward now. A lot of exciting young talent and positive manager. But we've got noone with the end product of Kane or Son which was always going to be impossible to replace. Simons and Kudus should add a lot creativity and let's hope any of our forwards stay fit and find some good goalscoring form. Once Kulusevski is back I'm curious to see how we'll line up but even though he's always gone a bit under the radar but he's been the main catalyst between being shit going forward and being dangerous in these last couple of seasons.
It really isn’t. They’re just names on a team sheet until they start playing and proving to be a success. West Ham apparently won last years transfer window (as per sky sports) but it turned out terribly. I remember Norwich buying a bunch of players and everyone on here was so impressed with their business. They were relegated at the end of the season
7/10 seems fair, I’m just happy we bought players to compete now and not for the future like in recent windows. The CL squad issue looks bad on paper when you look at numbers but looking at the names left out, it’s not an issue at all. Those guys shouldn’t be playing in CL anyways. Kulu and Dragusin need time to recover, Tel isn’t good enough yet and the others are depth players right now. Missing out on MGW and Eze might actually work in our favor. Simons is younger, cheaper and looks like a better player already. We will see if he adapts to the Prem. I would have liked a better backup at LB but other than that, we filled a lot of holes in one window. A very good start for Franks rebuild.
I think its more rating on the excitement and expectations you have from said window, the wow factor. Of course, there is no way you can judge how well things will turn out, no one can using any metric.
It is a thread to rate the transfer window, the window has ended. It makes for a good discussion to have people actively sharing their initial opinions on the window. That is kind of the point of this website....
abso f in lutely BBC doing the "Liverpool title a formality?" (if not exact words, summat like that) already but ultimately Isak hasn't kicked a ball yet, Wirtz needs time to fully adjust, Kerkez is already under scrutiny, and injuries can happen at any time to any one or more players we're at the "on paper" stage of things, obviously if the champions spend more than everyone else including buying two players at over £100m then surely they'd have to improve, except doesn't work like that and last season was hardly a competitive title race - there are other ways teams can improve (on last season or ongoing) without it being all on signings, better cohesion and understanding, identifying where the team can improve like stop conceding sloppy equalisers, winners and minimise dropped points from winning positions, etc will boil down probably to the same names, a few who sucked last season may be lifted by new management or just subtle changes in key areas add points by the half dozen. Everton look a different side, did they spend the most in the window....?
It's very silly and childish rubbish. I was on bbc whatever and went 1, 2 and bbc 3 and found two rubbish reality tv type shows last night. Why have a license fee if the output is exactly what commercial is churning out. They need to be better than that. Titles require work and consistency and nobody hands then out on Sept 2.
