Attendance of the Salford and Notts games looks off there. Notts was announced as 9k something Good to see us grind a win for a change even if it wasn't pretty. I don't mind boring if you win. It was frustrating watching Maynard's teams consistently crumble due to poor decision making or just being too open
When you consider the fact we had two away on international duty (but most likely have been on the bench today) and five long term injuries we are looking pretty good. Long season, but the signs are lining up.
I've never been as down as most Notts fans about our squad and this seasons chnces. Most got the hump because we released £6,000 a week 38 YO McGoldrick. We've got a really good squad for L2, they should be playing better but they are grinding out results. I had us down for third in the league predictions and I'll stand by that. Apart from a very dodgy keeper we've got goals, grit, depth and resilience. We aren't looking good but neither did Port Vale or Wimbledon last season. Absolute joy to see Pete Wild having a mardy. He's a crap winner and comical loser.
Personally thought the sending off was harsh but is the rule if you have your foot head high it's just an instant sending off now ? You looked better second have but that was no way near the Warne neutralise us masterclass that he talked up in stopping us the first 30 you literally played into our hands .
Problem is now everyone has seen us on TV on our nice new BP pitch, opposition will be getting the ploughs out to try get their pitches to look like how the Blundell Park used to be.
Piss poor from us today, instead of playing it on the ground against a team of units Harris thought he’d match them and it backfired, we were very Basic and for me Harris has to take the blame, tactically wasn’t good enough. Oldham came with a plan and it paid off, full credit to Mellon n co, they’re hard working and well drilled, didn’t think they deserved to win the game but also didn’t think we done enough to win it. Early days and talk of being contenders in the first week September is stupid. Tough trip to cleethorpes next. UIE.
We are only 4th aswell - 17+ from the first 10 would be a good start for me and we are only 3 points off that with 3 games to go until 1/5 of the season is done
his post-match interview is unhinged - completely controlled the game, deserved to win, should have had a penalty, ‘everything conspired against us’. personally thought they came for a scrap, got 1-2 chances and completely fluffed them and that was about it.
Good to see Bradley Inihovien on target again for Shrewsbury , albeit , he got his customary yellow card but , good luck to him , do well for them is doing well for Posh , £ in the future .
Nobody ever thinks we look good. But well drilled we are, when we are on it. People only credit football teams when they play like prime barca but we do it the Wimbledon way. Not very well quite often ill admit, but when mellon gets it right we are really hard to beat
Good performance from him today. May have a point to prove to Posh. Also missed a decent chance. Yellow card was actually for his celebration standing on the hoardings
Important for Shrewsbury to get our first win of the season at Barnet today. Must be a bogey side for them as apparently we haven't lost in the last 10 against them now. After our pretty poor start to the season, I'm getting more hopeful that we could stay out of trouble this season. The loanees already appear to be making a difference, plus Appleton has clearly changed things around since the DoF left just before the Colchester game.
I saw both him & his strike partner both get 1st half yellows & thought they'd probably upset the ref somehow . Decent win for you guys albeit I think Barnet early season wise are better on the road but , good luck to Big Bad Brad , some of North Cambs is watching .
Totally agree. I always held the opinion when we were in the Vanarama that league two wasn’t much better. You’d probably have the top 6 who are decent, but the rest would get mixed with a lot of the Vanarama. We’ve played mainly teams you’d expect to be top half this season, and other than 30 mins against Swindon and 20 mins against Bristol Rovers, I’ve seen **** all to think there’s such a gulf. I genuinely think if we had a striker that new you had to put the ball in the net, and we didn’t start the season with injuries to key players, we’d be 9 pts better off, which at present is top of the league. It’s another crap league.
This in essence is the beauty of League 2. There isn’t a gulf in class between the teams in the same way there is in the National League. Every team is able to convince themselves they’d be 9 points better off if not for a few minor details and of course, they’re all both simultaneously correct and incorrect. The problem is, and this is why teams that come up sometimes struggle, is that over 5 games that’s fine - over the course of a season, it’s a brutal attritional slog whereby if you’re waiting for things to swing in your favour, they never will, and if you’re looking for that sweet little run of fixtures where you get 4 freebies to boost confidence or keep pace, it also never comes. Every team that’s been promoted in recent years has done so because they’ve managed to grind out ugly wins when key players are injured or out of form, alongside the odd eye catching 3-0 rout - if you’re already ruing injuries at this stage of the season, you’re not ready to compete.
