Yeah ours are available via Google Pay or Apple Wallet, but they've also attached them as PDFs which makes things a tad easier. Just got ours and managed to open them fine. Seems like a huge ballache for the box office if they have to do this every other week though. Talk about making unnecessary work for yourself! The e-tickets should be fine for most (if the technology actually works) but really feel for the older fans and kids who don't have smartphones and have been left feeling alienated. Really poor to announce it so late as well.
That's what we have season ticket cards. We can also use and scan them on public transport in and out of the city on match day 3 hours either side of kick-off on a scheme called The Magpie Mover which allows free travel to season ticket holders To be honest I hope we hold off the digital ticket for as long as possible as there is just no need to change anything. The cards work perfectly well
Yeah I mean for those who don't have a smartphone. They're surely going to have to keep emailing them individual PDFs to print out. There must be thousands (particularly those over 65) without smartphones. The only advice the club have given to those fans so far (in an article released on social media about an hour ago) is to 'call the box office'. Absolute disgrace TBH. Most in that demographic probably won't even see it. I've got visions of an 85-year-old fan picking up his season ticket card, going for his pre-match breakfast, taking two buses to the game, arriving at the turnstile and being turned away because his card is no longer valid and he doesn't own smartphone. Makes me sick.
Feels odd that they’re forcing home fans to do it when we’re (away fans) getting paper tickets. Guess it’s just easier for other clubs to manage if you give them a stack of paper tickets. We’ve all got season tickets cards at ours, home tickets are all print at home if you’re buying singles / cup matches. It works pretty well. Can’t see why clubs would get rid of season ticket cards if you’ve already got them in place though? Imagine turning up at a game and your phone runs out of battery!
Ironically we're getting paper tickets at Watford away (cup) on Tuesday despite all their home fans going digital, and they're not even posting the tickets. We have to go and collect them. Not sure how clubs have managed to make such a mess of this despite having 18 months to get it right. Exactly. Obviously most won't be that stupid but it will happen to some, especially if they've stayed away from home the night before. There's also the issue of people trying to load apps using the 4G around the ground, which is absolutely dreadful. Hopefully the tickets are accessible without it (think they are) but it's bound to have an affect. If they'd announced they were phasing digital tickets in, and you had an option of downloading them or keeping your ST card for this season then I don't think anyone would've batted an eyelid, even if they phased the season ticket cards out over time, but to suddenly drop it on people who don't even own smartphones (let alone know how to use them) without any explanation of how they can get into the ground without one was bang out of order, and just plain amateurish. Most (including me) will be fine, but it's still going to lead to massive queues and unnecessary hassle tomorrow.
You just need to have taken a screenprint, but that doesn't address the phone battery issue of course.
That's what I've done as backup, but you can also access the tickets via the app without being online by the looks of it. Same as the Euro 2020 ones. Still doesn't address the thousands without smartphones though!
City have put some mobile chargers round the ground for nobheads who don't charge phone Looking forward being back tomorrow
Good idea tbf. QPR have also done this. Half hour delays getting in as only 1 stand worked properly. The world is going digital so I get it, to an extent. Money saved by less staff on ticket watch etc. Less needed in box office once working and so on.
I’m all for the digital ticket, I’ve been saying it would be a great idea for a few years now. Add it to my phone wallet and don’t have to worry about it for the whole season. I don’t generally carry an actual wallet, but always have my phone on me and already apple pay (almost) everything and have store cards etc. on there too. Just so much more convenient for me. However, I’m not all for it being forced on all supporters, with no reasonable back-up option. Physical tickets/cards for those who want or need them should absolutely be an option, without having to print at home or visit the ticket office to get one.
They were lucky (well maybe not) the game stayed on. There was a Scottish game last night abandoned due to a power issues with turnstiles etc.
Haven't read our forum yet (just saying what I saw from the balcony) but I imagine it was a mixture of the above. I had to scan mine two or three times before the turnstile opened so the tech certainly wasn't on point.
Got e-mails from the club asking fans to get there early etc to avoid the big queues close to kick off. Hasn’t gone down well. People don’t like being told what to do just because the ticket system isn’t up to purpose. Anyone had the same issues ? .
