Labour are trying to implement the recommendations.... Bid to halt children's bill 'sickening' - Bridget Phillipson Pushing for a new national inquiry into grooming gangs by halting the progress of a bill aimed at bolstering child safety is "utterly sickening", the education secretary has said. Bridget Phillipson told the BBC the Tory Party's amendment to the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill "would kill it stone dead" - but the amendment is unlikely to pass in the Commons. The wide-ranging bill being debated on Wednesday includes measures to protect vulnerable children, such as tougher rules around home-schooling and support for those in care, inspections of schools, changes to academies, and regulation of private education institutions. Ministers have said they want to roll out the recommendations of the previous child sexual abuse inquiry led by Prof Alexis Jay, rather than open a new national one. Prof Alexis Jay told the BBC on Tuesday that victims want action and do not need a new national inquiry. Phillipson told BBC Radio 4's Today programme the children's bill was "the single biggest piece of children safeguarding legislation in a generation", which the Conservatives intended to block "on the altar of political opportunism". This shit has been going on for decades. Why are the right suddenly so bothered about it all now Labour have won a General Election? Where was this outrage about this subject throughout the Tory reign of terror? It's almost like some don't actually give a **** about the victims and are just using this subject for political point scoring!
The most salient point is that there has already been a 2 year inquiry into this scandal, it reported to the Tory government in 2022 and made 20 recommendations to prevent such atrocities happening again, but none of the recommendations were implemented.
A point made to those now banging on about this and a point duly ignored by them, which just furthers my belief that none of this is being done for the right reasons! I even saw a victim of said abuse on Twitter posting about the fact that GB News were lying about her story and she got dogs abuse from those who pretend to be actually fighting for the exact cause she is a victim of
Meanwhile, away from the latest bout of Conservative uselessness and immorality, it appears to be already be April 1 in the world according to Liz Truss. Liz Truss legal threat to Starmer over claim she crashed economy
I think the most amusing element is the fact she has had a cease and desist letter sent to someone who was once the country's top lawyer without stating what the consequences would be if he fails to cease and desist. The laughter of the Politics Live panel when it was mentioned on there at lunchtime said it all.
I'd normally now state my opinion of her intellect level, but I'll refrain so I don't end up with a letter myself
Would you rather - A. Action the recommendations of the previous enquiry so this hopefully doesn't happen again. B. Pay millions more and waste years doing another enquiry just for political point scoring. Your choice...
The people who are sick and disgusting are those who would rather grandstand and point score than actually implement the recommendations of the inquiries that have already taken place. Those people who have feigned concern in recent days having done nothing for years have no business being in public life whatsoever and no amount of bile from propaganda artists like GBeebies will ever change that.
"Reign of terror", really ? Christ knows where the likes of Stalin, Mao, Hitler and the like would rate on your scale if we are already at terror level with the likes of Boris
Cut our way to growth, that always works out fine... Reeves mulls deeper cuts to public services as borrowing costs soar Rachel Reeves is considering imposing steeper cuts to public services to repair the government’s finances after a bruising week in which investors drove up the cost of UK borrowing and pushed the pound to a 14-month low. Government officials have told the Guardian the chancellor is prepared to reduce departmental spending even more than planned, having ruled out increases to either borrowing or taxes. Any measures to avoid breaking her fiscal rules could be announced at an emergency statement in the spring. The prospect of a fresh spending squeeze comes as Britain’s financial position is being rattled by a dramatic sell-off in the global market for government debt, fuelling a rise in the UK’s long-term borrowing costs to the highest level since 1998. On another day of drama in the markets after a challenging start to the year for Labour, Darren Jones, the chief secretary to the Treasury, sought to soothe investor jitters by insisting the markets for UK government bonds, known as gilts, remained “orderly”, while confirming that the government would stick to its fiscal commitments.
If there's one thing the UK doesn't need after 14 years of Tory cuts to public services it's more cuts to public services.
It's amazing really. People won't stomach tax rises to assist public services but we continually pay more for our energy, fuel, food, clothes, TV subscriptions etc and we do so without putting up any sort of fight. Nobody is telling Tesco to piss off when their shopping bill increases by 20% but the minute a tax rise is mentioned, particularly by Labour, there is mass hysteria
Speak for yourself, if any supplier takes the piss I negotiate a better deal or I change to another for a better deal, with the exception of water which is a Tory imposed monopoly. I used to do all my shopping at Tesco, these days it's 50/50 Tesco/Aldi. I could phone HMRC and demand a better PAYE deal, but I may as well stand in the corner banging my head on the wall for all the good it would do.
Bloody hell ringing HMRC. That's a fate worse than death that I wouldn't wish on Elon Musk. Well maybe him, but not too many others
