    precisely

broke down Kane's goals the other week and he scores like more than a goal a game in qualifiers but when it comes to finals is every other game and then semis or beyond one goal in four.....

someone on beeb have your say keeps trotting out a Ronaldo "scored 11 in last 12 games" stat but unless those were in a finals it is irrelevant - as was he in the Czech game, the poor Czech defender costing his side a point made a bigger "contribution" to the result....

Tbf, knockout rounds should be harder games, so it will be harder to score. Other than Roberto Baggio, there can't be too many players whose scoring record in the KO rounds betters their group or qualifying record.

It's that ineptness that cost us the semi final in 2018 and the final in 2021. Both games i'm sure we would have won if the opposition manager had been in our dug out.

It’s like watching the final again . He and the team shit themselves when they go ahead

a lot of these players also don’t know what to do when teams get in their faces either . Denmark have bullied them , and so did Serbia . It’s working

Southgate sucks the ability, freedom of expression and confidence out of all the flair players. Foden, Saka, etc are shadows of themselves when they pop on an England shirt. They all lack or appear to confidence, their fitness levels seem to drop to. I’m watching Spain v Italy and it’s different gravy.
If the noddies at Lancaster Gate can’t see this then our national team will wallow in ifs, buts and could have’s
    Its shambolic and a disgrace…
Time to call it a day Gareth

I'd love Southgate to get sacked tomorrow, sure there was one team who did it mid tournament and ended up winning it, forget who. Would never happen though of course.

The relentless negativity from certain posters is significantly more tedious, trust me

Southgate will be England's manager for the WC'26, unless a debacle (4-0) happens this Sunday (it won't). They won't let him go after 2 back-to-back Euro finals.

That said, I won't be surprised if Deschamps out/Zidane in.

The real irony is the type/quality of managers most want for England, wouldn’t even be interested in the job. And we all know this as well

they're foolish if true, wealth of resources only progressing through luck of draws and decisions when a good manager would probably be looking at winning every other tournament

yeah our players are so much better than every other teams! Oh and no good team ever needs to rely on a bit of luck.

who do you want as England manager, and would they actually accept it? Outside of actual English managers this job is not as big as some of the big European clubs, no matter how much money you throw at it.

They woulda aged really well if not for Bellingham's unbelievable last minute overhead kick, saving us from an embarrassing 1st round defeat vs Slovakia. Fine margins.

If Southgate wins the Euros then he'll be a legend, and no one will care about the poor performances. But if not... he's beaten a load of teams with worse players, with likely 1 good performance in the whole thing, mostly failing to get the best of several world class players, scraping past every team. That's the reality. Credit for reaching the final but he still got shit after reaching the final last time, cos context matters, easy side of the draw.

Still Southgate will have a great record on paper now he's made another final, so fair f#cks to him. If he left after the Euros he'd leave with his head held high.
