You know what? Our form is pretty good generally and kelleher is doing his best to stay concentrated and pull off the few saves he is getting called on to do. Some of those saves are great, some are not so good with thr ball coming off him. He's done epic on penalties and he's really shown up so I've zero complaints. but Alisson is the better goalkeeper. He's the best keeper I've personally seen bar none, you have to play him.
Yeah Alisson goes straight back in for me. I think we win that game last night with Alisson in goal, bit naive by Kelleher.
Yeah thats twice now, two short lived goes at managing, thank **** we didn't promote him like many wanted. To me, he's just another Roy Evans, great righthand man, great with players, etc but all too nice and friendly with players to make a good boss.
Whatever it is he eas almost immediately seeing senior players mouthing off about clark and bajcetic so he didn't enforce discipline.
When they lost 0-5 earlier in the season a senior player came out and publicly questioned why players who hadn't earned a place were getting them. I'll try find a link. Thst was a really poor early result. Edit, here is one. I am trying to find one where a specific player went further as well. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/bajcetic-fined-redbull-salzburg-liverpool-33842128
Yeah they had some appalling results. I just dont think he's cut out to be a manager, two jobs at non high profile clubs and he's failed miserably, thank christ we didnt promote him. Seen it many times before though, some coaches are cut out to be great number 2s but when they go it alone, they fail.
I agree. He is the type that can be the nice guy and write a book (have seen no comments about that from our players but I wonder if they laughed at it) but when you are the main man you have to be the law. Bobby Clark's career is now at risk as a result. Bajcetic will be OK but he has to get games
Despite the furore over Clark, I've never seen him ready for first team football, at a top level anyway, lad looks decent but needs to go on loan to a Championship/League 1 level club for a year or so. Liverpool fans last season were claiming he was ready for a regular slot in our side...I never agreed.
The players had to pick a name out of the hat and say what they would buy them for Christmas, Diogo Jota picked out Trent, he said he'd buy him a pen to sign his contract.
Curtis Jones has constantly surprised me this season ,yesterday I thought his performance was exceptional along with MacAllister. What surprised me was how robust he is becoming and the tackles and interceptions he's now throwing in for fun. One of my biggest gripes about Jones was holding onto the ball too long and constantly turning into traffic ,but yesterday was possibly his best performance and most commanding in the middle I've seen whilst wearing the Liverpool shirt and he delivered it with real bite.
Agreed, and as for Mac Allister, yeah he was absolutely superb last night, does so much unselfish work and still gets in and around the box. What a bargain he's turned out to be.
I remember fairly early in the game where he went on a similar pressing run like Robertson did in the City game, where he just ran after the ball when it was being passed across the back line of West Ham, and it ended in a foul, but he literally ran from the left of midfield up to there goalkeeper and across to there right back. He's really cementing himself in the side now, and hopefully he can remain injury free because he will be a big miss if he gets injured. The entire midfield has been world class though.
The contract situation for VVD, Salah and Trent is ridiculous. Trent, I’m pretty sure everyone is resigned to losing but not getting anything for a potential £150m+ player is a disgrace. What can you say about VVD, him staying is an absolute must. If we’re going to rely on Quansah in the future then we need him to learn from Virgil. That’s ignoring the fact he’s still our best defender by far. Then Salah, granted even I thought he may drop off as he gets older but under Slot he’s turned it up another level. If he carries on the way he is, even with a small blip, he’ll win the Ballon D’or next year I’m sure of it. Hughes and co being so stubborn is going to screw us completely. Can you imagine the impact it’ll have on the rest of the squad if the above 3 announce they’re leaving one by one in January. It definitely has the impact derail our season.
Everyone seems to be up in arms regarding Hughes ,but I imagine the fella is busy preparing for the negotiations. I mean ,there's three top quality players able to leave on a free ,lets not forget they may be waiting for other offers to come in just to strengthen their hand in negotiating a fresh contract. It's like any contract proposal , there will be other offers that force the clubs hand somewhat. I also find it strange that the agents of said players have remained surprisingly quiet in all this ,especially Salah's whose been known to be quite outspoken on social media in similar situations and to be perfectly candid is a bit of a cock .....Yet nothing ? The truth is Liverpool seem surprisingly relaxed about the whole thing and it's really only the fans and the roots at BBC and Sky who seem particularly perturbed that they still have nothing to report. Every press conference and interview they do they seem intent an regurgitating the same question ? It's a familiar diatribe ,but I doubt it will have escaped FSG the huge onus placed on them and Hughes to ensure these contracts are sorted when the players in question finally decide to sit down and haggle. The good thing is no player can actually leave in January, unless Liverpool are informed the player is sitting down with the interested club ,so this ridiculous notion about Jan 1st needs to be binned quicker than Micah Richards speech therapist. Basically, Hughes and Co still have time to bounce back on the counter when or if these offers start arriving. Just to add ,lest we forget Hughes and Edwards are largely responsible for bringing Slot to the club ,so I'm thinking they've earned a bit of trust from supporters ? I don't for one minute believe they're lacking in intelligence enough to fail to realize losing all three players would be negligence of the highest order and bring about a huge backlash ,neither do I envisage them sitting idle fiddling while Rome burns. "Inside the club, things don’t change once the players can talk to other clubs. We keep having the talks and see what happens, the outside world changes as everyone is expecting the players to instantly start talking to other clubs while we’re in the negotiations come January 1st" Arne Slot 29/12/2024
