We scored 74 goals in the league in his first season and 64 goals last season despite finishing 17th which was more goals than most of the league, including Forest. Our ability to score goals meant we were never going down. I know goals doesn't automatically mean you're a good attacking side but I find it bonkers that anyone could consider Ange anything but an attacking coach. His biggest criticism at Spurs was that they were too attacking at times and that he needed to adapt in certain situations. I'm not going to defend any of the other concerns people might have of Ange but he will want to get Forest playing attacking football. My immediate concern would be that it's probably too big a change between how Forest were under Nuno and how Ange will want them to play. Without a pre-season I think he'll need to be more pragmatic in that transition as it's going to be harder to implement with Forest playing three games a week for the foreseeable future but I don't think attacking football should be one of your reservations. It'll be interesting to see how the likes of Murillo, Milenkovic, Sels etc get on. Some of Forest's defensive players (rightly) took a lot of plaudits last season but they won't have Nuno's style of football to fall back on anymore. We'll see if some of them are actually as good as their reputation or whether Nuno's style of football made them look better than they are.
I don't think anyone said he was an attacking genius. But despite finishing 17th last season only 7 teams scored more goals.
This is the thing. Any manager can get their team to score if they set them up how Ange did. It isn't rocket science to basically go overload 80% of the time. They shipped 6 goals at home to Liverpool last season and still pulled 3 goals out the bag. Ange is more or less a pub team manager.
Depends how poor the league season is. Is winning the second rate European trophy worth being relegated for considering the mess we'd be in with our finances without the PL riches? I don't mind us going back to the Championship in respect of being in the league for the entertainment but I'd worry about how our finances would cope considering the expenditure we have made over the last few seasons
He also lost 22 league games with a very talented team. He is going to have to work miracles to convince me (and most other Forest fans judging by on here and twitter) that he is anything other than a massive fraud. It would also help if he sorted his personality out as well - I think that is the bit that grates me the most. He's such a miserable ****er
Interesting hearing the perspective of Forest fans here. To be fair to Marinakis, everyone believed Forest would suffer after Cooper was sacked. Instead their trajectory went upwards. He is far from a perfect owner, & crosses the line, but you can't accuse him of not caring & being ambitious.
If my style on Football Manager is anything to go by, I suspect he got his coaching badges through playing that game
Doesn’t really matter now if Ange is the man but have I missed something with Glasner being mentioned a few times this last few pages? Why would he leave Palace at this moment in time?
Postecoglu’s Premier League matches at Spurs yielded just shy of 3.5 goals per game. You’re not going to be bored Forest fans
He wouldn't, and even if he had a knock to the head and decided he fancied it he'd be blocked until his contract runs out. Thankfully it's all irrelevant as Large Angelos has just been pictured arriving.
I do think Ange is a good manager and a lot of the criticism isn't fair. What I would say is that his strategy relied heavily on the speed of Micky van de Ven and the stats back that up. 1.35 goals per game conceded with him on the pitch and 1.9 goals per game without him on the pitch. It would've been smart to be more pragmatic without him in the side, but frankly I don't think that is his style and I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing either. The recruitment should've been more dialled in to plug that gap.
So much bollocks in one post, actually quite impressive. Speaking of reverting to the mean, isn't it about time you lot went back to League 2?
Out of hope that we would pull something out of the bag and not be lumbered with Ange - wishful thinking on our part
If anyone had Adama Traore derailing our season without even playing against us on their bingo card for this season then you deserve a full house
People already have their minds made up on Ange so I didn't really want to get in to the other criticisms of him, I spent enough time defending him last season. I just wanted to make his case as an attacking coach. If nothing else, he should at least get credit for being that. I'll join @Vito Andolini 's fan club and enjoy watching from afar and hope he proves some people wrong at Forest.
