It's just how he feels. He's always been country-over-club, I don't think it's an attempt to appeal to anyone tbh and it's certainly not an opinion that has changed since he's gone to Germany. It's fine if he thinks your international career is more important than club career but he should have left it at that. To go on and have a bit of a dig at players feels really daft and I'm sure it will cause a bit of friction further down the line.
I feel ultimately more needs to be said that the FA seems to have played this changeover poorly. Why is Tuchel starting on January 1st? Why did Carsley reveal he's not had contact with Tuchel beyond a congratulatory text when he got announced? The message that sends to the players is: these games don't really matter. So if you, as a player, are being sent that message and perhaps you are nursing a knock or a bit of fatigue, or maybe you fancy seeing your family a bit more... it is only rational you will say yeah OK I'm taking a break.
Yeah I'm referring to the criticism of team mates. I know he's the captain but he's speaking like he's some sort of statesman in terms of football. You're a great goalscorer but you've still won the square root of **** all. It's not like he's some seasoned winner who has been there and done it. Slow your roll Harold. Feels a bit 'look at me teacher' with regards to the new manager coming in.
If for whatever reason Tuchel isn't available to start work until January 1st, maybe something to do with leaving Bayern not long ago. Why would you not at least install his assistant to the set-up for these fixtures to give the impression the new regime is getting involved. Just stupid all round really.
Perhaps but if you're picking and choosing when it does / doesn't matter for England then you can't grumble too much further down the line. I think it's perfectly fine to not want to play for England or prioritise your club career or personal life over international football but there's a fair bit of narrative that comes with some of these players that have pulled out. Some of the absentees probably are legitimate but there'll also be question marks on some of them. That said, I think you leave that talk to the press and Twitter and fans to speculate on. I don't think you should have your captain adding to that narrative, particularly when that captain has had his fair share of criticism in an England shirt and his teammates have likely had his back. It's fine if Kane is country-over-club but he shouldn't be having a dig at others missing the squad for whatever reasons. He's supposed to be one of the leaders in that England setup, it feels a bit naive on his part to have said what he has as strongly as he has. I don't even think what he's won is relevant. I just think from a leadership aspect it's really poor. I don't think if he'd won loads in his career that his comments would be any more justified and he's experienced enough that really he should know better. The irony is that there's plenty of external noise around Kane's England career already so the last thing you need is to then potentially turn those inside the England bubble against you. He hasn't named names at least but it potentially leaves people in that England camp looking at him a little differently. Some of those are much younger than Kane too.
He isn't available to start until 1st January is Tuchel?. Is this a weird Brexit-infuenced work permit rule?
According to this article it is just they want to start on the World Cup qualifiers and not do these Nations League games. Which hammers back to my point that by doing this they've made these two games feel utterly unimportant. (which they are) CEO Mark Bullingham said during Tuchel’s unveiling that the FA were “very clear” that Carsley would manage the two remaining group games. “When we first spoke to Thomas he wanted to have a singular focus on the World Cup. So it made sense on both sides for him to start on January 1,” said Bullingham. “When we first spoke to him, we had our timescale, Thomas had his timescale and it just fitted really well.” For Tuchel, he didn’t want to start his reign as one campaign was about to conclude. England have two Nations League group games remaining and two victories may secure automatic return to League A, the top tier of the competition. from: Why is Thomas Tuchel not overseeing England’s Nations League games?
Tuchel has been handed an expanded list of options plus and idea of who is committed to the case and not. So while mr tuchel has got his way with whatever contractual dues he had coming to him the most important thing is England got promoted I suppose. Now a few younger players got their starts which is all well amd good but we will have to see what tuchel thinks in terms of formation and who he wants to pick from.
Looks like Gareth is getting a knighthood. The people making such decisions will see his England record as an impressive achievement. Regardless of how he did it by hook or crook.
First Day for Thomas Tuchel as England Coach and also first Day for Jürgen Klopp as "Head of Global Soccer Football" at Red Bull. What a sad day for German Football.
