sure I read that Tuchel was tapping into advice on who to pick, fair enough he can't see all the players in a short time to do a proper personal evaluation but most reservations cited about age and the league he had been playing in surely he could have got alternates - and I'd be worried on the advisors giving said advice if that was to pick JH (nowadays)
not sure there are many clear choices that should have been in, defence or in goal same probably for "forwards" as they call it on BBC. Midfield looks a little underwhelming, but that may be caps count over actual quality, Jordan surely has more caps than the rest, or all but Rice (will check/do stats) combined: 84 Henderson (caps not age!) 66 Rice 4 Gibbs-White 6 Rogers 1 Wharton 0 Anderson by the thinnest of thin margins I was right, 84 Henderson, rest 77....... "midfield" not categorised by me, working off BBC squad list
Goes well with a mediocre manager then. I can't remember the last time I was this uninspired by the national team. And that includes under Southgate, who is the personification of a non-entity.
Rice and Wharton feels like a really complimentary midfield duo. Bellingham in front of them. Left wing is up for grabs. Livramento will establish himself as the right-back by next summer. Left-back......MLS for some games, Spence for others. Centre-back is the one that feels the most disappointing.
Really disappointing for Wharton to miss out with injury (although probably good for us as it doesn't look as serious as first feared). RLC was out of the blue, but happy for him. He's obviously been doing quite well at AC Milan and was brilliant in his loan spell here. If it wasn't for injuries he probably would've been an England squad regular. In more important news, a very happy birthday to Sir Gareth Southgate. The greatest England manager of our lifetimes
didn't know you were 15............... also if you insist on pimping that use the word "most successful" (and that's still kinda questionable since he won diddly and probably contributed heavily to England staying on 1 win, men's game only of course) he's surely team of the season material so far, as little as that may mean after 3 games, so leaving citeh may actually give him more of a chance
Yep - I think leaving City will hopefully free him up to play his natural game. His reverse pass to Dewsbury Hall last weekend was lovely.
No win situation today really . I don’t think any result will be seen positively. A narrow win and the knives are going to be out and anything higher will be met with “it’s only Andorra “
If we win 1-0 against Andorra for the second time in one set of World Cup qualifiers the knives will rightly be out regardless of whether it's a win or not. It would be embarrassing. That said the bigger test should come on Tuesday night against Serbia who are capable of beating us comfortably.
The same Southgate who got us to 2 finals, most successful manager since we won the world cup in 66, yes football fans know so much about the game. Lol
Who had the team playing shit football that was as boring as watching grass grow and ultimately still won f**k all. Yes, that manager. We clearly have a different definition of successful. For me, being the best loser isn't a success.
