I’m obviously looking forward to next season already. Hopefully Leeds, Sheffield Utd and Burnley have all gone to the “Promised Land” and we can recommence battle for the highest league title that teams of our size can realistically ever hope for.
Yes I’m aware of that, but I did say realistically. There’s no problem with you dreaming about Scunthorpe ever winning the PL but I wouldn’t put your money on it.
I think honestly it’s easier to say the odds are stacked against you (although they are) when the main large reason is just that your club has been really badly run over the last few years and you’ve been really shit this season
Enjoy it for the journey, because the destination has been painful. I wouldn't change the 24 months leading up to this point though.
Rather that than shitty Friday or Monday night games. At least I can be home to walk the dog before it gets dark in winter
And Stoke . Better odds on Birmingham being there at the moment, although yesterday's win has given us hope. Unfortunately it does look like all 3 promoted teams are coming back down again. Really thought Leicester would make a better fist of it. The 12.30 games are really annoying and there are lots of them.
I don’t really understand this argument about us being badly run. As has been pointed out we’ve lived the dream, won the PL and FA Cup and also been in the CL and the Europa twice whilst competing at the top end of the PL. The resources required to do that are substantial and if an argument is to be made about being badly run, then it was because we dared to rock the boat and try and compete. Would it have been better to know our place and settle for season after season of mid table mediocrity and take the financial security that brings, personally I wouldn’t want that. The trouble is once you start winning then you want more, which is why I prefer the Championship. This argument that supporters use about being well run, is just an excuse to accept your place in the scheme of things and never dare to compete. It will be interesting to see what happens with Forest next season should they qualify for the CL or the Europa, because it is then that the fun begins, do they just take the money or do they gamble and strengthen your team in order to compete in both.
Our owner will want to compete, as simple as that. He's never shyed away from where he wants to take our football club and the fact he's invested so heavily since our promotion just shows how committed he is to that
The new Hermann Hriedarsson. He had a shaky start but he's actually been ok. Whether he is considerably better than Woolfenden and Burgess to justify the money we spent on him is another story.
It’s looking ever more likely it will indeed be those 3 sides, but how incredibly depressing that it could be consecutive seasons where all of the promoted sides are immediately relegated. I genuinely worry about how much money we will have to invest should we get promoted. Our young side will likely be decimated or their development will be stunted after getting battered on a weekly basis.
What's just as concerning is the goal differences too, they're not even close to 17th place anymore. What was an anomaly such as less than 30 points to stay up and collective goal difference over -120 is now likely in consecutive seasons. Also, from what I can see, all 3 teams hadn't been relegated the following season since 1998 and again, is likely to happen twice in a row. Last 10 years points tally needed to stay up, collated GD and promoted teams relegated with this year's projected: 2025 - 27 (-144) - 3 2024 - 27 (-139) - 3 2023 - 35 (-84) - 2 2022 - 36 (-123) - 2 2021 - 29 (-110) - 1 2020 - 35 (-102) - 1 2019 - 35 (-146) - 2 2018 - 34 (-86) - 0 2017 - 35 (-109) - 2 2016 - 38 (-98) - 1 2015 - 36 (-74) - 2 Bring on next season if we go up
