Love Honour and Obey. The cast reads : Ray Winstone ,Jude Law ,Johnny Lee Miller ,Rhys Ifans, Kathy Burke and Sean Pertwee starring in a tale of two rival London gangsters being played off against each other by a particularly malicious insider. I still cant get Sean Pertwee's decidedly camp Karaoke performance out of my head. Has to be nestling up there as one my favourite English gangster movies as it was an absolute joy to watch. Loved it and wondering how it flew under my radar for so long ? Well it's ingrained in my head ,so I'm sharing it to lighten the load
Longlegs If there's anything creepier than Nicolas Cage complete in facial prosthesis singing Happy Birthday I've yet to see it. Maika Monroe is superb as the highly intuitive but socially awkward FBI agent and like I said I've never seen a Cage performance so unsettling. Is it on the same level as Silence of the Lambs ,it's not even remotely close to Demme's masterpiece ,so forgive the fools who declared it to be exactly that ,but it's a very watchable horror and the viewer will be left in little doubt as to the identity of 'the man downstairs' #Cryptic innit
It's definitely one to watch when it's available in HD ,I sadly watched a CAM version which didn't have the best audio if I'm honest. It was like listening though a sea shell ,which is all well and good if you wish to hear the ocean ,but not so good if it's the murmurings of a suspected serial killer you need to decipher.
That’s easily the most iconic line from the film! I also loved operation good guys so was always gonna love this film
Its a comedy show, written (and performed) by the 2 guys that wrote love, honour and obey. I reckon you’ll like it if you like the film
Antibodies Basically the German Silence of the Lambs (was quite similar to it). Enjoyed it up until the end where it kinda derailed. Nightwatch Loved it. Brilliant little thriller that kept me hooked, eventhough I had few issues with the ending. Has a young Jamie Lannister & Martin from The Bridge series. Apparently there's a Hollywood remake of it which is poor.
Starman [1984] Invasion of the Bodysnatchers crossed with ET and a middle section of Thelma and Louise. Daft, wooden beginning but evolves into a moderate extra-terrestrial chase movie. I watched it all but wouldn't really recommend anyone else do the same, Jeff Bridges doesn't convince but Karen Allen's okay. 6.562/10 Contact [1997] I've seen this before years ago, it's still too long but nevertheless a fascinating study of science v religion, as pertinent these days as it ever was, especially in the USA. Jodi Foster is excellent as she usually is, and the story (from Carl Sagan's book) is solid enough but the film loses its way for an hour in the middle before a strong ending. 7.88201/10 The Courier [2018] Why did Gary Oldman think this was a good idea? Reasonable start that then descends into a tedious martial arts type bore. 3.33/10
Kinds of Kindess - 8/10 I'm a sucker for this pretentious shite. I can see what some of the themes are here, but to be honest beyond that I found all 3 tales consistently interesting throughout. The sort of film that needs a rewatch. Deadpool 2 - 7/10 Heartwarming story, lots of action, and of course Ryan Reynolds is hilarious. Deadpool vs Wolverine - 5/10 Ryan Reynolds is still hilarious but my god does this film get off to a slow start. Might also be because I'm not really a Marvel head tbf I don't find the story massively interesting, but a fair few of my friends who are still didn't massively like it. It's OK.
Maika Monroe is great in everything I've seen. It Follows is another great film of hers she is great in horror/thrillers seems to be her genre.
I Saw the TV GLow. I was barely 10 minutes into this film and was already thinking what it was all about ,but then it suddenly hit me how loneliness can often induce obsession and how being ostracized by society whilst being constantly reminded by your own parents that you're different was and in some ways 'still is' just growing up in suburban America. It's deeply disturbing in parts but thought provoking snippets congregate to slowly drag you in. The melancholia runs deep in this film and whilst throwing the proverbial kitchen sink at being profound it at times comes across as really morose ,but in a lot of aspects it reminds me of the first time I watched Donnie Darko and realized the darkness that engulfed each frame would have a completely different meaning other than shock based on personal experiences to some of the people who sat in that cinema. I honestly think this will slowly become a genuine cult classic and the need to re-watch will arrive from your confusion at the conclusion. I mean you can watch this as many times as you like and take away something different from it each time and yet there will be some who can view it simply as a horror movie ,but it's more than that and Mr Melancholy represents much more than just an archetypal horror movie villain. At the end I just felt a sadness at how some kids are forced into a bracket and pushed to one side by the ridicule they endure at Americas High Schools and why in truth they're all so completely f*cked up and internally scarred.
Deadpool and Wolverine. 2024 Superhero movies not my favourite genre, but wifey wanted go to cinema and it was this or Twisters. I chose Deadpool because she likes the movies. Had little expectation myself, but was actually pretty entertained for the full two hours. Really decent movie IMO, with great turns by the two leads and that dog 8.8/10
Trap. There were less holes in Bonnie and Clyde than the plot of this movie ,I can say this with real conviction because it was absolute wank. Scarcely believable tosh ,but I actually found it highly amusing to watch to it's conclusion as I was intrigued how far Mr Shymalalan would actually stretch the ridiculous and I'm happy to report he didn't disappoint
