Same. I feel the last season of Wire is by far the weakest. A lot of people though hate the second season, which I actually love. However fourth is by far the best season.
Second is the worst for me, on IMDB something like 8 of the bottom 15 rated episodes are in S2, agree that 4 was the best.
Yeah the characters in The Wire are superb. Omar, one of, if not the best goodie/baddie characters you'll ever see. Gutted he (Michael K Williams) died in real so young. Was a very decent actor whenever I saw him in stuff. Yeah I really enjoyed The Docks/2nd season one that most watchers seemed to dislike. Last season deffo the weakest, I guess they were simply running out of ideas and thankfully didnt film any more series, five were just right.
Paris Has Fallen. Prime Video I didn't fancy this when the trailer was first advertised ,I suspect that was mainly down to believing it to be similar to the one man army known as Gerald Butler in the less than realistic London Has Fallen. I'm happy to report that the series has managed to successfully avoid falling into that trap. The first episode was tailor made for those who have a preference for the heroes in a story to be just as ruthless and merciless as the baddies ,also 'if like me' you think the Bond films seriously missed a trick in not incorporating Sean Harris in to be the villain then this will be right up your street . Harris is just superb as the visually and horrifically scarred former French Foreign Legion Commander bent on exacting revenge against the believed to be untouchable politicians that are responsible for his losses. I just wish I'd waited for more episodes to air before watching the first installment.
Omar was an absolute legend, and I remember letting out a loud sigh when Stringer met his way too early fate..
Slow Horses Season 4 Another good season. Maybe a bit low on plot and Lamb. But it makes up with its characters & humour. Two good additions to the show in Flyte & Coe. The latter especially is brilliant. It's been renewed for season 6. Still the best thing on TV right now.
I felt the same about season 2 until I’d watched the whole show. The reason for me was I absolutely loved the first season (my personal favourite) and it moved away from the streets. In hindsight, and after multiple watches, it’s as good as 1, 3 and 4, and has one of my absolute favourite scenes in the show - the bust at the brothel where the cops are too late to ‘save’ mcnulty. Season 5 was a disappointment to me, the ending was silly, but it’s still my favourite show overall. The last episode was really good though, watching Sydner turn in to mcnulty, Bubb’s redemption and slim Charles avenging his old bosses death
Omar and stringers deaths are definitely 2 of the biggest moments in the show, but for very different reasons. I’m guessing we all felt gutted when Omar got popped. I liked both characters, and this is where the Sopranos and especially the wire separate themselves from other great shows. The character development in both is absolutely second to none. Most of my favourite characters in both shows are stone cold killers. That said Bubbs was my personal favourite (Silvio in the sopranos/Lillyhammer). He has a tough old time through out the show and it was great to see his redemption in the last season
The old man. Good cia thriller type show. Jeff bridges and John lithgow, so it's obviously going to be good. 2 seasons out already Good show, but I wouldn't class that as a slow burner. Pretty much all action from the start in terms of that government spy type of show anyway
Alma's Not Normal [2020 - 2024] Just finished series one and started series two. Written by and starring Sophie Willan, the whole thing's absolutely barmy, based on the eponymous Alma's life and relatives, in particular her drug addled mother and sexually voracous grandmother. Siobhan Finneran as the mother, Lin, steals every single scene she's in with a wonderful over the top, hilariously tragic portrayal. Possibly the sweariest programme I've ever seen. 8.129/10
I find most cop or mafia dramas boring, so the wire and the sopranos probably the two most praised shows ever did nothing for me, probably why i watch so few TV series. Ones I did enjoy were Lost and breaking bad, Fargo, the leftovers
being a little pedantic here but the wire is not a cop show. It’s about the city of Baltimore, and the institutions/politicians within the city that are causing the issues and decline.
Season 3 of From is putting paid to the frankly disappointing second season in its first few episodes. I think season two dropped its intrigue levels decidedly and got to the point were the viewer was less than @rsed with speculating and needed a few more hints as to what these gnarly toothed smiling f*ckers actually are. Thankfully season 3 is setting about rectifying this from the off.
Oh. I liked S1 but I thought it ended there. Didn’t even think there was a 2 let alone a 3. I’ll get back on track, good man.
