I'm currently doing research around football kits for my university project and I would like to know why people wear football kits? (Or even why don't you wear football kits?), What's your opinion on kits in general? How it makes you feel? What it means to you?, etc I want to show how a football kit is more than just a kit.
I support the team, I wear the uniform. I feel like I am part of a larger community. My opinion on kits in general? I find the 1990-2000 kits more attractive as they are more "football kit" look than today's modern fashion, however this is personal taste.
In my humble opinion wearing a football shirt to a game in order to show your support is good. Wearing one in the pub, at a shopping centre or supermarket is wrong, and having a name on the back in any of these establishments is only a few steps away from dressing up as batman. Any adult wearing a full kit should be laughed at. That's completely unacceptable, unless there actually playing football. Edit: When I was younger I'd wear a shirt regularly. I've only become a grinch as I've got older.
Would you say you prefer the the 90s/00s kits because the modern kits have too much sponsors/ brands which makes it less attractive? What's your reason for hating them? Very interesting to hear that. So if you was to wear a football kit outside as a casual wear, would you feel embarrassed?
I wear them often, to the gym, playing football, around the house and out and about. There's no shame in wearing them as an adult and anyone who disagrees is just masking their fragile masculinity.
I enjoy the flamboyant look of football kits in those days, today's kits are made to look plain to suit the modern fashion trends.
During high school I only wore some football kits when I didn't have a clean white shirt for PE, or when Man United won a big game or the league back in 2013 so I wanted to make sure everyone was reminded. I was pretty much the only one across 2-3 classes who supports them. Now I try to have a stylish classy look whenever I go out, and I think there are so many better options than football kits for that. A typical sweatshirt or T-shirt with some nice football design is alright, but I wouldn't wear the same thing footballers do. I still keep all the kits I have but I probably won't be wearing any of them again.
I'm the same with how I would wear my football kits too. And I agree that adults shouldn't feel ashamed in wearing kits as well. Do you think you will still be wearing football kits, the way you're doing it currently, as you get older? I agree. What's your opinion on Nigeria's World Cup kit? I think it's quite similar to the 90s flamboyant kits. If it's possible, what would make you start wearing football kits again?
Maybe if I met my old friends again after a long time and we played football, I'd wear one of the kits again while on the pitch. I don't think there is any other scenario.
Definitely as I’ll always go to the gym, always try to play football and always try to go to games. Whether or not you wear just a top or the full kit.
Why do you think wearing a football kit makes you a pedophile? I do think it's kinda weird to see someone wearing a full kit, unless I guess you're playing football. Could you argue that they're a die hard fan of the club they support or they just trying to hard to become a fan, etc?
It was OTT, I assume there are odd instances of people wearing football shirts and not being attracted to children. However, they’re basically fancy dress for adults. I wouldn’t wear a football shirt to the supermarket for the same reason I wouldn’t go down the pub dressed as batman. They’re massively overpriced, not particularly comfy and most of them look absolute shite. Why would you wear one?! No, it doesn’t make them a die hard fan of their club. In fact most people I know who wear replica tops have never stepped foot inside the stadium of teams they support.
The last City shirt I bought for myself to wear was our '82 SAAB shirt. It's the only one I own now and I only use it to sleep in. It's the sponsorship, ruins it for me.Give me a replica shirt with just the club crest any day.
Fair enough. I agree they are really overpriced. I've never bought a kit myself as my parents usually bought them when I was younger and people buying them as a present for me. At this stage, I would wear a football kit to show support of the team I love or if the team I support has a nice kit design. To be honest, I'm one of those people who had United kits when I was younger but never visited Old Trafford but I get your point. Fair enough. They'll probably get laughed at as well I can understand that. What if Man City used a sponsorship or a brand that you follow or really enjoy, would you be able to wear the kit?
