Is that a good thing or bad? James sometimes unplayable on her day but can be a liability sometimes as well.
The legend scored Been all Arsenal since they scored. Amazing how much confidence the 1st goal gave Arsenal and how much it drained from LCL.
Good! James has all the tools to be one of the best players but whatever reason she can’t put it all together. Super small sample size but from what I’ve seen of Smith, the tools are there too. Seems very at ease with beating a player.
Very poor choice of pass there from Smith, should have lead to a LCL goal. Arsenal get away with one.
Inevitable tbf. But also deserved, that's the difference between an established WSL team and a newly promoted one. Super Beth Mead, two asists in as many minutes. Learned her trade at Sunderland don't you know
LCL are going to be strong this year. Dunno if they’ll crack the European spots but they’ll be best of the rest I think. They invested too much to fail.
Aye, they looked good, but Arsenal's quality shone through in the end. Really hope you give Chelsea a run for their money this season. Would like to see you win it. Good luck.
no such thing as spending too much to fail, bringing in virtually an entirely new side is a risk if they don't gel
Women's football in general is definitely in the growth period, but I'm not sure the second tier being forced to be professional helps the game particularly. I think that'll happen naturally in time, but I do think it's a shame that clubs almost have to be financially unviable in order to compete in the second tier. I think if a side is good enough to compete at that level, likes Wolves, then they should be given the opportunity to compete, even if they want to remain part-time. Part of the issue for sides like Wolves, that aren't applying to enter the second tier, is that if they were forced to go professional they would have to start over again (and probably get weaker as a team) as players playing for them have got full-time jobs that they won't be able to give up. I just think that goes against the spirit of a genuine football pyramid. As for the transfer record, it's now been broken four times in 2025, and 8 of the top 10 all time most expensive signings have come this calender year (with the other two in 2024). It's gone from being £400k just a couple of years ago, to now being £1.4 million with five different players hitting the £1 million mark and at this rate it looks like the money for transfer fees for top level clubs is going to go through the roof. It'll be interesting to see to what extent it does go up.
Spurs three points towards safety in a dreadful home game v West Ham. Big away win for Everton at Anfield which will give them confidence. Leicester had a tricky away game but head straight for the bottom of the table - hopefully they stay there. Didn't see anything today to give me optimism about Spurs this season. We'll be bottom three or four for sure.
I was looking at average attendances in the women's league. Quite a few clubs seem to dropping, with only a few Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool rising. Is there a reason for this such as TV coverage / cost?
I had season ticket for 3 years at City then it kept clashing with Mens, its never going to win that battle then they have 3 games then about 6 weeks without a home game, that was me done with it.
Not the easiest start for London City Lionesses but another big defeat for them. Their season won't be defined by games against the top 4 but they've had a little bit of a humbling in both games. 10 women Leicester had a good home win against Liverpool. Really important to win those sort of games. Chelsea have had a bit of a struggle today but maintain their 100% start to keep pace with Arsenal. Everton v Spurs finishes up the weekend fixtures later this afternoon. Not entirely sure what to expect. They had a really good win last week and we have a poor record at Everton so the likelihood is they'll win their first game at the new home ground, Goodison Park! Hopefully I'm wrong and we get a result.
O'Brien's red card was a joke, soft yellow early that the ref didn't need to give, then O'Brien gets fouled by Evans for Liverpool and gets sent off for complaining, utter bullshit from a weak ref. so great to see the goal go in 3 minutes later, I'm sure it'll be all about how Liverpool dominated but Leitzig basically had nothing to do so we fully deserved that win
