Spurs have followed up last week's result with another win. Six points, two wins, two clean sheets and a much better performance today. Maybe we won't be scrapping to stay up after all. Liverpool, West Ham and London City Lionesses pointless after two games. Liverpool should be concerned given they've had a pretty kind start to the season.
Back to normality. Spurs getting tonked by City and Miedema gets her customary goal against us. Currently 3-0. It'll probably be a few more yet.
Good for them to get their season up and running. Not a great start to life at Goodison for Everton though.
Matt Beard passed away yesterday, sympathies to his family. It leave us with a big problem as he was going to be our new manager once his gardening leave was up, no idea what we'll do now, could do worse than leave Passmoor in post I guess
Very sad news about Beard. Not a surprise that Liverpool didn't play in the circumstances as I'm sure a few there will have been affected. Seemed like a well liked person in the women's game.
Figured I'd post separately about the result today but United and Arsenal played out a 0-0 draw this afternoon. Probably one of the more acceptable games for both to drop points but Chelsea don't give you many opportunities. Advantage Chelsea at the moment.
on to our game they had a bit of luck with the goal with the backheel deflecting right into ABJs path and she did well to score, Leitzig made some quality saves but I thought it was our best performance of the season, a little more quality in the final ball and we could have got something, Eriksdottir can normally hit the ball well but her shots today were very scruffy. Was good to see Mouchon and Swaby back in the squad though Kees was missing, not sure why, O'Brien back now from her ban too. West Ham getting smashed was a bonus
A very poor performance deservedly punished with a late equaliser for the women. Already looking at a possible four point gap to Chelsea by the end of the weekend.
Oh, I've just seen the scoreline. I presumed it had finished 1-0. Really disappointing for Arsenal's hopes of winning the WSL. 22 games really doesn't allow you to drop many points, particularly up against Chelsea.
Tottenham have won at Leicester. We were dreadful after going 2-0 up but just about saw it out, a draw would have been a fairer result but a good 3 points for us. Liverpool remain pointless and the London City Lionesses tough start continues. The latter have two big home games coming up to show they can hack it at this level. Really pleased with our start. Results have been better than some of the performances and the schedule has been kind to us but we should be targeting a top half finish based on how we've started the season. We certainly shouldn't be in a relegation battle which was my fear before the season.
London City Lionesses did what no newly promoted side should do and damn near replace their entire starting 11. Outside of Jana, the rest of their signings are a collection of recognisable names around age 30 or older and then expecting them to gel straight away.
I'm cutting them a bit of slack because they've played Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City in their first four games. They will finish top 4 and most of the league will lose to those teams. It has been a poor start but it has been a tough start too. We'll see in October how well they do with more winnable fixtures. If they don't start winning those then they'll be in the mix for relegation.
Spurs were damn lucky to win that, given what O'Brien got sent off against Liverpool for you number 25 should have been given 2 yellows in one incident after our goal, delaying the restart then acting like she'd received a right hook. Eriksdottir really struggles to make an impact not sure why she started over O'Brien or Rantala, not a big fan of this system and have no idea where Missy Goodwin will fit in when she's back
After our owners pulled the plug on funding for our Womens team, leading to them dropping two divisions and cobbling a whole new squad together, today we lost 13-0 to Burnley in the cup. For a team that brought through players like Ella Toone, Keira Walsh and Georgia Stanway it's dreadful how they have been dealt with.
