Didn’t know where to put this but Graham Potter seems to be loosely following the Roy Hodgson career path

Start off in Sweden, move to another country, get a job at a top club, short time in another job, international management

So he’s currently at Hodgson 2002 UAE national team, which means in about 5 years time he’ll end up back in the premier league and then England manager in 10 years time

Nice little peace prize from FIFA who've awarded World Cups to Putin, Qatar, Trump and probably the Saudis :)

So Trump will be the winner then. Got to kiss the orange arse somehow.

It's best not to think about it: a corrupt official hands over a meaningless prize to a corrupt president. Probably with the promise that he'll keep his hands off the World Cup trophy next year.

    **********
Anyway, last 2 qualifiers for Germany tomorrow away in Luxembourg and at home against Slovakia.

Just checked our stats against our little neighbours. We only played them 14 times, won 13 and lost 1 (that was in 1939, 1-2, and no that wasn't the reason for WWII a few months later). The first leg we won 4-0 at home and anything other than a win would be a huge embarrassment.
I'm excited to see if Nagelsmann tests young El Mala. The guy made a stellar rise this summer. First he played in the U19 Euro in the summer, then recently promoted to the U21 and after only a couple of (very good, though) Bundesliga matches for Köln already promoted to the A-team.
I hope he brings him against Luxembourg, I like the guy (although he hurt HSV recently badly ;) )

Watching Rep Ireland v Portugal ,the Irish desperate for a result so should be a blood and thunder performance.

1-0 Rep ,good start by Ireland ,just being well drilled at the back and then playing on the counter is frustrating the Portuguese.

Never. Should be 3-0 or 4-0 up after that first half. Kane's miss was an absolute shocker.

Fair play to Ireland , 2 up with a Parrott brace at half time , under 30% possession & still a chance of 2nd & play off spot but imagine Ronaldo & Co will score in the 2nd half .

Yeah, petulant elbow to the back of an Irish defender.

That was the most beautiful sequence of karma I've seen in a long time. After he elbowed the defender he took the piss rubbing his eyes pretending to cry, then after the red card was given he walked off with Ireland fans giving it back to him.

Arsenal boys doing the job for England.

    Good win for the ROI

Italy with two late goals so Norway have to wait a bit .

Italy need to win 9-0 on Sunday to qualify automatically. That's not happening.

France have become the latest team to qualify.

Democratic Republic Of Congo knocked out Cameroon in the playoff round. They progress to another playoff round alongside Nigeria.

DR Congo last played in the World Cup Finals in 1974 under the name Zaire. Be nice to see a country qualify that hasn't taken part for a long time.

Nigeria knocked out Gabon unfortunately. But as said above great to see DR Congo beat Cameroon

Really interesting night of results in Concacaf. Curacao massively boosted their goal difference with a 7-0 win over Bermuda. They top spot in the group by a point over Jamaica, who they play on Tuesday!! Avoid a loss and it’s a first World Cup for them

Suriname are level on points with Panama, but they don’t play each other in the last round of games so it’ll be interesting to see what happens there. Neither of them can be overtaken for first and second

But then absolutely out of nowhere Group C has sprung to life. Haiti with a huge win against Costa Rica and Honduras got beat too! Means that the points are now Honduras 8, Haiti 8, Costa Rica 6. Really tight and I’m amazed Costa Rica have struggled so much
