I think the issue with the decision, and Walton's defence of it, is that they are both based on an incorrect assumption that Livakovic is trying to challenge for possession of the ball at the point when Alvarez strikes it towards goal. For me, and I have watched it back, he is standing his ground with the intent of either blocking the shot or making it as difficult as possible for Alvarez to hit the target. If that decision is given against England or any of our club teams, we would be livid about it.
