I am pretty clueless and was after some advice. I am 41 and have never had a licence and thought that I might have a pop. What is the usual amount of lessons for a non muppet? I can drive, I have done and am not experienced though at all. Could I get away with 10? I ordered my provisional licence today, I suppose I can do the theory test at any time and then just crack on with the test when I am ready?
Tends to be 16-20 I think, while you may be able to drive being able to drive and able to pass the test are very different .
My dad was a driving instructor and he used to say it was one lesson for every year of your life, but most pupils tended to be less than 30 years old. If you've already got the basics and have driven before I reckon 10 lessons may be enough though.
Noted. So I have heard! They might think I am someone who lost his licence or something. I'll have to come clean and say I am just plain old boring never did it! I suspected it might be something like that, i can understand them pushing for more - it is their business - I shall start out with 10 and see how it goes! Thanks to all. Watch this space.
I booked my first lesson and at the same time I booked my test for 5 weeks later. Did 2 two hour lesson a week and did my test on the fifth week and passed. So if you can drive already, then 16 hours is more than enough unless you are a slow learner.

I think a lot of people struggle with getting used to the clutch and gearbox, if you've already got that part sorted and you feel confident that your in control of the car, the rest is easy. If your not confident about the controls get a mate to take you out to a quite area and practice, supermarket car parks at night and private industrial estates are perfect. You could also put a bit of time in away from the car reading the Highway Code. It's all about confidence control and situational awareness, oh and always lots of mirrors Pretty sure that unless your the nervous type you'll be posting that you've past in a couple of months. You'll then be free, to do what the majority do and that's to forget everything thing you've learnt and drive like a numpty for the rest of your life.
That all sounds like sound advice, cheers. I shall avoid the numpty part though. I don't think I will even get a car, I looked at lease costs because I do not want to deal with garrages and all that nonsense. From memory I was okay with gears, but that was a few years ago and on the sitting on the wrong side as they do in brazil.
The theorys pretty easy if you put the revision in. The dvds are a good help and about an hour a week before the exam should be enough. As said above, driving is all about confidence, which your instructor should give you if they've anything about them. Good luck
