I'm not a fan of individual awards in a team sport, but if you're going to award these things, then I can't think of anyone who deserved it more. He's been outstanding for years, but doesn't get enough credit because he doesn't do fancy tricks and flicks.
Well deserved! Congratulations, Lewa. At least some retribution for the Ballon d'Or vote a month ago. edit: Interesting to read how the players voted. Robert Lewandowski voted for Messi at 2nd behind Jorginho at #1 (and Ronaldo at #3) Messi didn't vote for Lewandowski (He voted for his PSG teammates Neymar, Mbappe and Real's Benzema at #1,#2,#3). And CR7 didn't vote for Messi but voted for Lewandowski at 1st place (plus Kanté at #2, Jorginho at #3) . Cricket? Well....
He has always gotten credit just not an award like this because there have been more deserving players of it through the years. He deserved this one alright. Also what players are you talking about when you mention tricks and flicks ?
No one player in particular. Just a general comment about how players who perform eye catching tricks, often get more praise than they deserve. Whereas a player who plays in a more efficient and effective manner to win games, gets overlooked.
Well my question was about tricks and flicks and nothing else. Anyway yes messi has been poor in alot of psg games this year but he looked back to his best just before Christmas. He looked like he was over his injury problems that have dogged him since the end of the copa America. We'll just have to wait and see how he performs in the second half of the season
Messi hasn't really been the same player since 2016. Still elite but you can easily see he lost a tremendous amount of his acceleration which was attributed to his knee/hamstring injuries. He's still arguably been the best in the world circa 2017- onward due to his ability on the ball but not quite the levels we saw him prior. 2010-2012 particularly. He's become very injury prone this season (due to the knee bone contusion he suffered in the Copa America last summer). Curious to see how he performs this second half.
