Agreed. Would love him to win a race. Those upgrades seem huge, so they'll either be amazing or they'll backfire terribly and struggle for points. Can't see them only having a tenth or two difference. Feels like they'll gain half a second or lose it. I quite enjoy the sprint races and the format of it all. It's not perfect but it is better than 3 lots of practice. The obvious downside is that Red Bull win these races as well, so you get an even bigger sense of 'Red Bull wins again'.
Yeah - Even riskier on a sprint weekend with only the one practice to actually test them. I prefer this new format now with qualifying back on Saturday. Saturday being a separate “Sprint day” last season was terrible and I’d just generally avoid Saturdays. But I actually preferred the original format where the sprint result decided the main grid. I know it would give top drivers a chance to creep up the grid if they slip up in qualifying. But it works both ways, like Lewis would have started in P2 instead of P18 It just gave the sprints real meaning for me. Now they’re just pointless literally races for 8 points and they reduce the element of surprise for Sunday because you’ve had a taste of performance the day before.
Contrasting day for Danny Ric. Decent sprint race but out in Q1. Disappointing for Alonso too - below Stroll!
Well done Lando and McLaren. Great performance. Safety car helped of course but beat Verstappen on the track with his pace .
Yeah exactly what I said. So glad it wasn’t a Max DNF (or even an obvious mechanical issue). He managed that brilliantly and to extend it to a 7+ second lead by the end is immense. Onwards to a few more this season hopefully. A Silverstone win would be perfect.
So happy for Lando. Ferrari are bringing an upgrade package to Imola… would be amazing to have Ferrari and McLaren making it a regular three-way fight at the front this year
Get in!! Lando Norris with a fantastic drive! Safety Car did him a favour but regardless, he defended against Verstappen in a straight fight on the restart and then pulled away from him for the remaining 25 or so laps. Absolutely chuffed for the lad. There's life left in F1 yet.
The Ferrari boss joining in McLaren's celebrations just seems so wrong to this 90s/00s kid. Like the Pope and the Taliban hanging out with each other.
