Bias – Of course we feel it! We are fans! It’s not just a football thing either. It’s the same for most sports fans! I know I have been guilty in the past. I have seen something at a game, been convinced of what I saw, only to then see it back on TV and realise it didn’t happen as I remembered! Post-game comments can be interesting at times, often suggesting that referees are biased, usually against the team that lost, but sometimes, BOTH sets of fans think the ref was biased against them! It makes me laugh sometimes, when sports fans (One of my colleagues is a regular with this) suggest the referee missed several blatant infractions, but all of them by the opposition, while he made several weak calls, but never on the opposition So, here’s a chance to self-assess yourself. I think most people would accept that they see things one way, but how much? Do you think you see things pretty neutrally? Do you accept, once you have calmed down, that maybe your rose coloured specs are actually a bright scarlet?
I'm not biased in the slightest - except for regarding my wife's cakes. They are, by a distance, the best in the World. Regarding football - I've just stopped posting on the Cheltenham Town forum because of the one-eyed bellends on there who think the club are never wrong.
It's difficult not to be biased about things you care about. We're only human, or hopefully we all are....
I think you’re right! I think the more passionate you are about your team (Or other things, such as wives and kids that have already been mentioned), the more biased you become, but often without realising! If 2 players square up in a game, the majority of both sets of supporters will believe that their player is the innocent party. What’s great is that they won’t see as just them sticking up for their man. They will genuinely believe it! The human mind is a fascinating thing, with a twisted sense of humour at times
I'm 1. I say it as it is / was. If you're wrong, you're wrong. If you are right, I'll agree. Even when it comes to family. I just can't defend someone or something that is wrong.
Stevenage fans are a nightmare for this, they booed a ref for years for sending off Efe Sodje for a 2 footed, off the floor challenge from behind. oh but the ref was a cheat and thats why we lost, never mind it was a few minutes from time and we were already 3-0 down but must be the refs fault. When one of ours commits a foul I'm usually the one having a go at him for committing such a donkey's tackle in the first place.
I am in no way shape or form the slightest bit biased over anything, be it sport, politics or how handsome I am.
I'm more bias against clubs I hate then defending my own club. Liverpool are always lucky. Refs always decide with Arsenal and Chelsea players are all murderers.
