I think Iran has taken a risk hoping things don’t escalate after this. They were basically in between a rock and a hard place, do nothing and be seen as weak or launch a large attack and invite a war that with the civil unrest/economy etc they wouldn’t want. 50 Drones will look like they’ve responded to the attack in Syria, but I doubt they think any will make it to their targets given the time and distance involved. The big risk is that even if none reach their targets Israel will still have an excuse to escalate and given the regime in power I think they probably will try, hopefully America stops them if that’s the case.
Global sympathy for Israel is at the lowest point that I can remember. Members of my family who are very openly anti islamic are criticising Israel over their actions over the past few months. Iran are seeing this as an optimal time.
Someone that has to be seen to be retaliating but doesn't want to actually escalate into a full conflict. "We're gonna send some drones, get your defenses up".
Sorry I disagree, Apart from the Americans Israel doesn’t give a rats ass what anyone else thinks. They’ve been escalating things from the beginning and trying to drag Iran into a war hopefully that America will join. The attack on the Syrian consulate was designed to escalate things, they knew Iran would deem it as being on their territory, the same as every other government would. If they had just wanted to kill the commanders they could’ve waited until they left. Iran doesn’t view this as an optimal time but think Israel does as they see it as a way of not only destroying their biggest enemies but also of stopping them from funding and helping their proxies. We’ll have to see how far the Americans will allow them to go.
I haven’t got a link but I just read on the BBC news app that Iran has issued a statement saying that they see this as the end and consider the matter now closed. Which sort of backs up what I was posting earlier. We’ll have to see if Israel see it the same way, so how I doubt it.
I will never support my country helping the murderous Israeli regime. They reap what they sow. I always said Israel could start WW3 eventually.
In the past Israel were never as bad as Iran, but now they’re as bad as each other, in fact Israel are probably edging it. I’m not overly unhappy about my government helping in this instance as it will hopefully stop any escalation, but I’m far from happy that we continue to support Israel in there war in Gaza.
They've been quietly enlarging their 'settlements' and evicting Palestinians for decades, all with the tacit approval of the West. We all knew what was going on but those in high places continue to support Israel, both financially and militarily, and have done since it was founded in the 50s.
There's going to be some mess coming up. Iran's proxies fired missles at the same time as Iran's drone/missile attack. Any missiles that have caused casaulties in civilian areas could easily be denied by Iran and claimed by their proxies, who are considered terrorist groups. Israel are going to have to be very measured in their response. Potentially, it's a very messy situation and not black and white tit for tat.
Yes I’m obviously aware of that and have never been pro-Israel and have been dismayed that successive UK governments and the rest of the world has turned a blind eye to it. But this lot are just full on war mongers.
Nothing to do with retaliating the Hamas attacks, in fact has any of this been that? Or just Israel using the opportunity to steal more land off Palestine.
Thankfully more bluff & bluster from the news channels than actual atrocities albeit not happy with the RAF taking part , it's about time we butt our noses out of Middle Eastern & other conflicts & concentrate more on the problems on the home front where we're still seeing folks in dinghies tipping up on a weekly basis re Blair's Weapons of mass Deception fiasco & Cameron's Libyan fiasco where Gaddafi warned the West that they'd destabilise the region if they do what they did .
Me neither, I'm yet to hear any kind of explanation why the RAF is working to defend Israel. What's the difference between Iran attacking Israel with missiles and drones and Russia spending over 2 years attacking Ukraine with missiles and drones?
Not keen on the RAF getting involved - other than taking the opportunity to field test anti-drone technology.
Unless Israel goes rogue this past weekend was de-escalation, a massively telegraphed attack that was light in power that allowed Iran to not look weak to its allies whilst allowing both Iran and the US to get out of the trap Israel set (because they're ****s). Nice theatre. At best we can say Iran burned some of Israel/US's money on the cheap and forced reconfiguration of the air defences.
