Amorim is going to find it hard to get the same amount of control he had at Sporting. He's clearly happy there and will only leave for a similar level of control. LFC and West Ham both have new/relatively new directors of football, so was always gonna be a hard one.
can never tell how he'll fare, obviously comparisons could be made with Nil Seven who is bleating about his record being great and some number crunchers are suggesting he's in line to be the next Arteta (as if doing same eg not win until seventh season in charge means you'll repeat someone else's achievements), but generally you can see more is wrong than right at the theater of wet dreams bottom line is they are big boots to fill, obviously will be lots of speculation, expectation and anxiety. Klopp is leaving good foundations, clearing out some of the older players and crocks was important, still concerns over quite a few including Matip, Jota and others injured more than you would like, but no lack of quality and some good kids around although I doubt many will be headline names at Anfield that aren't nearly if not there already - Liverpool best I'm aware have no great record in youth competitions of recent years, not that it is necessarily a bad reflection on players coming through just maybe avoid the "next Zidane" kind of tag and expectations Houllier fell foul of, with some of his total duds
Muller when the season starts in August: "I too would like to express my fondness for bald headed managers"
Potentially. Diaz and Nunez are too inconsistent. Salah may be off. Gakpo is meh. Jota is always injured.
I have no idea about this so am going to reserve judgement. how can most fans have a clue? this is not like getting klopp and the huge excitement. nor is it like Hodgson or Rodgers. its more of a ok you are taking a big risk here so you better know what you are doing here
Even Klopp was a risk and there was a narrative at the time that he wasn't going to succeed. Sky Sports were presenting stuff like this for example:
I respect them for going a bit ‘out there’ with an appointment but this is a huge risk that could set the club back 5+ seasons.
At worst we will be fighting for top 4 I reckon his style isn't that different from Klopps and we have plenty of young talent for him to work with.
There’s data out there that shows Dutch football is most similar to the championship in play styles etc, that’s why you’re seeing more and more transfer action between the both leagues. The step up pressure wise is huge from managing a team in Dutch top flight, to Liverpool. He’s probably on a par with ETH and he’s been pretty horrific with his management at Man United. I wouldn’t take much notice of De Boer, he’s probably just shit full stop. More likely to be a failure appointment this I’d say.
100% this and I’m even more intrigued to see what happens with him now. Head coaches have a lot of control and are paid pretty well at the big 3 in Portugal so it seems he’s going to have to compromise somewhat in order to make that jump to a bigger league Don’t know what to make of Slot, can’t claim to have seen much of Feyenoord but its seemingly an increasingly bolder decision to take someone from the Eredivisie
Eredivisie is a concern no doubt. 7 Haag actually achieved more than Slot... But he was at a bigger club with better players and more money, and he inhereited great youth players. When managing AZ, Slot was level with Ajax when their season was cancelled due to covid after 25 games. Then won with Feyenoord the 3rd biggest club, and kept them challenging despite losing loads of players. Also did lost the conference league final, apparently was unlucky to go out in the CL group stage this season, and he just won the Dutch cup. I just wouldn't compare him with ETH taking over United though because he's actually got some charisma, and he won't have to drastically change his style of play, or try and fail to bin a load of shit players. ETH dropping his style of play was so weird. Slot is taking over a decent side and plays in a similar way to Klopp.
I think that's the reason he's been offered the job tbh. By all accounts his Feyenoord set up is very similar to Klopp's so there'll be less upheaval on paper than say someone like Alonso who plays 3 at the back, wing backs and with a 10 for example. Time will tell how it goes of course. It's not a glamorous appointment but it seems pretty sensible.
I suppose (& I'm guessing here) someone who is willing to work under Edwards. Carry forward the club's philosophy in the way the owners want it to function (consistently achieve minimum targets like top 4 & long run in Europe, if not titles). Basically not be a hindrance in the functioning of the club & work seamlessly with the existing structure that has been created there. For all of Klopp's strong personality, he rarely went against owners, even when at times it seemed that we squandered opportunities by not splashing cash on players. He was okay with the club choosing to wait for the right targets. At the most make temporary loan signings on the short term. No. That would be a recipe for disaster. Pep will function quietly as an assistant under a senior manager or someone who had been at the club long before him, but not someone around his age & new to the club. Plus he has a history here & is familiar to the squad. It could end up being like Houllier & Evans. I am glad Pep has his own ambitions. Either give him the job for continuity (which we now know is not happening) or let him pursue his dream somewhere else.
