Falklands sure, lots of resentment from them about that. But Eng/Arg footballing rivalry is in depth: 1966 "Theft of the century", Hurst goal apparantly offside and Argie captain sent off (and escorted off by police) 1986 Maradona "Hand of God" incident 1998 Beckham/Simeone kicking incident + loss on penalties 2002 Beckham's penalty "redemption" Plus more I'm probably missing, I don't think we've actually played them since a friendly in 2005 (won 3-2)
I can understand the Falklands war causing resentment, but cheating? Really? Isn't every team doing this to some extent?
Aye, but England is the land of the grumpy old man so it adds into the previous instances of Maradona's genius handball & Simeone's faking. We're a nation that fixated on the Cristiano Ronaldo wink after all.
Yes of course but cheating, diving and being dirty is a huge South American trait and they have quite a few unlikeable players as well. How dare they.
Diving to win a penalty is one thing, but blatantly punching the ball into the net then literally claiming it was "God", and claiming a broken leg in three places after a tame flicked out boot whilst lying down - is another It's ingrained, it is what it is.
That's a relief. Clearly the better side today. Both in regular and extra time. Footballers in general have become gross with their behavior. It's been a long time since one could call it a specifically Argentinian or anybody else's trait. The falling and complaining/acting innocent in particular have become absolutely embarrassing.
Gutted. Really wanted those arrogant cnuts out. I pressed the power button on the Sky box as soon as that last penalty went in. I couldn't deal with the prospect of the BBC's glee at the Argies progressing along with 20 minutes of sycophantic shite about how it was "Messi's tournament".
It's Gary Lineker. It's no surprise. I really hope these cnuts end up going out. I'd rather even Portugal won it, and believe me that's saying something.
Surely the dream scenario is Portugal to beat Argentina in the final, but Ronaldo doesn't get a minute of football. Both CR7 and His Tournamentship crying in the same game.
And that Di Maria needs special mention in the unlikeable stakes after his bitter Van Gaal comments. The ugly, big eared, long-faced twat.
No need for the gloating there. I get the relief after they'd dominated the game then thrown it away in the last 10 minutes, knowing the criticism they'd get back home if they'd lost. But that was just petty. Anyway I don't think there's any doubt that the best team won and it sets the competition up nicely now.
I'm praying Croatia absolutely **** them over. Or, even better, Argentina take an early lead then Croatia score twice in injury time to take the win. Before gloating.
Croatia will do what Croatia do. They'll shithouse them for 120 minutes before winning on penalties. Although the Argentinian keeper looks like he can do a job in shootouts so Croatia might have their work cut out this time.
