On this day in 2002, one day before the scheduled first show of The Who's 2002 US tour, bass player John Entwistle, died aged 57 in his hotel room at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Entwistle had gone to bed that night with a stripper, who woke at 10am to find Entwistle cold and unresponsive (he wasn't dead at that point). The Las Vegas medical examiner determined that death was due to a heart attack induced by an undetermined amount of cocaine.

On this fine day in 1968, Pink Floyd released their second album A Saucerful Of Secrets in the UK. It is both the last album on which Syd Barrett would appear and the only studio album to which all five band members contributed. The album sleeve was designed by Hipgnosis, a new company formed by the band's friends Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey 'Po' Powell, who were paid £110 for their efforts. Nice day's work.

I'm pretty sure without Googling it that Storm whatshisname also designed the album cover for Dark Side Of The Moon..

July 6th 1957. Possibly one of the biggest moments in music history, this was the day that John Lennon and Paul McCartney met for the first time at The Woolton Church Parish Fete where John's band, The Quarry Men, were appearing. As The Quarry Men were setting up for their evening performance, McCartney, eager to impress Lennon picked up a guitar and played ‘Twenty Flight Rock’ (Eddie Cochran) and ‘Be-Bop-A-Lula’ (Gene Vincent). Lennon was impressed, and even more so when McCartney showed Lennon and Eric Griffiths how to tune their guitars, something they'd been paying someone else to do for them.

Imagine if they hadn't have met? I think they both would have made it but nowhere near the impact they had as a writing duo.

Climate scientists from five leading universities found that 163 of Bob Dylan's 542 songs reference the climate – almost a third – making him the musician most likely to mention the weather in his lyrics. The Beatles came in at number two, mentioning the weather in 48 of the 308 songs they wrote.

48 Beatles' songs that mentions the weather, and your time starts......now...

On this day 77 years ago Keith John Moon was born in London and became arguably the greatest rock drummer of his generation before dying at the tragically young age of 32 in 1978. Yet another rock music legend who lived enough in his short lifespan for 2 or 3 normal lifetimes.

    August 28th 2012.

Celebrity Net Worth named Ringo Starr as the world's richest drummer, with an estimated fortune of $300 million. Phil Collins was ranked second with $250 million, former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl was third with $225 million, the Eagles' Don Henley came in forth with $200 million and Metallica's Lars Ulrich was fifth with $175 million. Also making the top ten were U2's Larry Mullen and The Rolling Stones' Charlie Watts.

Classic example of being in the right place at the right time..

On this day in 1964 Bob Dylan after playing a show at Forest Hills Tennis Stadium, New York, met the Beatles for the first time at The Delmonico Hotel. Dylan and mutual journalist friend Al Aronowitz introduce the Fab Four to marijuana.

Thank you Robert for Sgt Peppers ;)

The Beatles, and n particular Lennon, was taking all sorts of shit when they were in Hamburg in 1961. Lennon used to come on stage wearing a toilet seat round his neck he was so far out of it..
