Our World War. A brilliant 3 part drama about 3 different groups of soldiers in WWI based on true stories it was on The BBC but they don't make series like this anymore. 9/10.
Black Doves [2024] Netflix The Black Doves are yet another shadowy association of cold blooded assassins, who live outwardly normal lives when not murdering people. Nothing original in the plot, and it has a Slow Horses black humour vibe about it. Starring Keira Knightly, Ben Whishaw and Sarah Lancashire the cast probably adds an extra point to my score, it had the usual convoluted spy/assassin/gangster interactions and plenty of firefights, some exciting and some silly. I enjoyed it, and with just 6 episodes of 1hr each it's an easy watch. 8.10703/10
The Night Agent season 2 I thought the first season was decent. Nothing extra ordinary & this is no Slow Horses or Bourne Identity. Just harmless fun. Second season is similar, even though they do make an effort of being smart with the character of Jacob Monrue, who was actually interesting. Rest of the series is nothing special. It's the kind of stuff you watch, feel it's okay and remember nothing about it later.
Yeah, the first series is top tier television. I've not seen series 5 yet, but I enjoyed 2, 3 & 4, even though they do decrease in quality with each series. But, like you said, the first series is pretty difficult to live up to. Billy Bob Thornton in particular was an incredible bit of casting.
The Crow Girl Paramount plus A crime drama about Historical abuse and murder with an absolute brilliant cast with Eve Myles ,Dougray Scott and Katherine Kelly ,gritty and particularly verite and at times it's a hard watch just for that realism. Katherine Kelly is especially good as psychotherapist Dr Sophia Craven ,but the gold star goes to Eve Myles who just gives us an amazing performance. Cant wait for season 2 to drop ,watched the last episode last night and it was phenomenal TV with a ruthless twist I was completely blindsided by ,there's one scene with Dougray Scott and Eve Myles and the interplay between the two actors had me transfixed and hung on every utterance. Finally a writer and a cast have delivered a TV series as engrossing as Broadchurch. Unmissable in every sense of the word.
Unforgotten (season 6) Another brilliant season as always. Emotional, thought provoking, great acting and was not expecting that final episode. Hopefully they make more. 9/10
The Breakthrough (Genombrottet) Swedish series based on a true story. Just 4 episodes long. Typical Nordic series. Less of action, but filled with drama, tension, in typical bleak settings. Maybe not for people if they are looking for outright thrillers.
Agreed, absolutely excellent series. When Nicola Walker left I was annoyed they didn't promote Sanjeev Bhaskar into the lead role but to be honest Sinead Keenan has really grown on me, especially in this series that's just ended. It's a good show, shame we only ever get 6. 8.427/10
I'd, erm, forgotten about this and have only seen the first two seasons but am watching the last half of the third tonight. It's very good..
Inheritance (TV series 2023) I borrowed a bit of this review as it made me laugh more than the show entertained; What has my wife just made me watch? Beyond awful. Four part mini series that went on about three episodes too many, with a plot featuring three grown up kids who find out when their dad passes unexpectedly that the house, the money, all of it, has gone to some secretly wedded wife that no one knew about. And this in a village the size of (insert very small village here) You had to suspend disbelief just a bit too often - like why the coroner kept confiding in this wretched family even when they were suspects. The best bit though was right at the end, as they all stood and watched the disputed house slowly burn down - police in attendance, but no sign of the fire brigade, as it just burned away. Maybe they’d run out of budget and couldn’t afford to hire a fire engine, or there were no more locals willing to act as extras in this embarrassing tripe. 1.00001/10
Departure. S1. I started watching this because of the aviation aspect but only survived three episodes as it's absolute nonsense. I'm not spoiling it by saying this because it happens from the start, but the makers of this shite are asking us to believe that someone would survive falling thousands of feet into the freezing waters of the Atlantic ocean from a commercial jet should get proper jobs. If you jump off the Golden gate bridge you're dead before your underpants get wet so what would be left of you after falling thousands of feet could fit into a bucket, and a small one at that.
Zero Day That was a predictable mess. It isn't bad, but it isn't good either. This is something that you will watch & laugh at the predictable plots, clear holes in the story, stereotypical dialogues & completely forget about it few days later. Shame really, cause they had loads of top actors & actresses.
4 seasons done now and it's done that thing where someone forgot to keep the writing fresh so now you get the same scene repeating. Still decent and hopeful that there's a satisfactory ending. Grade dropped to 7.6/10 at this point
Just finished all six seasons of Unforgotten. Two things; it's an 8,435/10 throughout the series and thanks to @Muller for reminding me.
