Arne Slot on the draw. "The first thing to say is it is a very challenging draw but also a very exciting one and more important than anything, we are part of it – which means there is a lot to look forward to and also a lot of work to be done."There will be a lot of focus on the fixture against Real Madrid at Anfield, and rightly so because they are the holders of the competition, but at the same time there is so much quality among our other opponents that we will spread our attention evenly and take each game as it comes. "PSV are a team I know really well, of course, and – like Bayer Leverkusen – they are champions of their own country, so the standard is very clear and it runs through all of the clubs that we will face. I could talk about each of them and what they will bring but the time to do that is when the fixtures come around. "For now, we will look forward and, as I said, keep working because there are a lot of games to come in the Premier League and in the Champions League, and the only way to approach them is one at a time."
Sporting’s draw: Man City (Home) Leipzig (Away) Arsenal (Home) Club Brugge (Away) Lille (Home) PSV Eindhoven (Away) Bologna (Home) Sturm Graz (Away) Going to get battered by the top 3 but all the other games are winnable. Shit format either way
I'm not even going to try and figure out how those fixtures work. I see city have the same teams as arsenal but won't play arsenal. I also see that some teams first fixture looks like the same first fixture for another team. And are all the top matches in the first 3 or 4 match days then the cannon fodder games the last 4 weeks?
So the fixture order hasn't been worked out yet, it'll be worked out by some super-computer and announced Saturday I believe. Most sites just have them in order of pot for the time being, which makes it look like that.
We need Arnie to take it out otherwise Skynet will rule the world. Just watched the draw. Jeez give me a couple of chaps drawing numbered balls out of a velvet bag. Why is football so complicated. Keep it bloody simple. That is why we love it.
The supercomputer has decided Liverpool will play Real Madrid few days before playing Manchester City.
Just noticed that the last matchday everyone plays at the same time. That is interesting. Can't imagine the TV companies are happy at that.
We’ve got Atlanta away between away trips to Spurs and Man City. And then we’ve got Inter away between away trips to Newcastle and Chelsea We do have Monaco, Dinamo and Girona as our last three games though. I’d be thinking about some tactical rotation in those Atalanta and Inter games.
