You'll get your own back in the NL match - German ref - apparently the match fixing one so I'm sure someone will have done him a bung
Surprised by that. Thought the Germans considered the Dutch and French as their rivals, and our beef with them was more one sided. Given Spain just knocked them out, I was assuming that a decent number of them would actually want us to win. Guess not Would be quite happy if it turned out the Germans do dislike us tbh. When I found out that most of them didn't really care it made us seem as tinpot as the Scots
This petition thing that keeps reappearing now and again to have matches replayed just shows what sad sacks football fans have become. Being a part of a 'thing' that you know full well will be completely pointless.
Four penalty shootouts in total now: England - Penalty shoot-out | Transfermarkt I think it is probably the 'armchair' fans who don't usually watch games. Anyway, the English ref just demonstrated the correct interpretation of the handball law, right?
Netherlands and Italy, then a long time nothing then maybe France, England I always have problems with something like "The Germans....." as it implies it's all Germans that dislike something. Better call it some Germans. I'm sure I'm not wrong if I say that it's the same with you guys (maybe even more dislike us than some of us dislike you.) So no generalizations please. And just for the records: I don't "hate" anyone. I just can't stand losing against the Dutch or Italians (or against any other nation) but that's all. I love Italy as a country, the culture, the italian cuisine and the same for the Dutch (except the cuisine )
I was only talking about sporting rivalries mush, not any actual dislike or hatred. I just meant that it's a bit embarrassing that we tend to see you lot as our main rivals for the most part when a lot of you don't seem to really care about us at all, so I'd prefer it if you did care
If I were I'd definitely be hiding as far back in the closet as I could fit I don't have any hampshire elements in my family, so I probably picked it up from my step dad seeing as he's from london. Weirdly it's a word I use in texts but never actually say
Yeah its not just a Southampton thing, mush. I wouldn't expect that from a Brightonian - more that lovely mock London Katie Price accent
Heard it used by people from the North East too, not exactly sure how it would only be used in those areas!
This morning while shaving I was thinking about God and the world, as usual, that's what you do when you have a razor to your throat So I thought why Germany can't win a Euro (tournament, not the money) anymore. And the solution is: We're cursed since we last won it, 1996 in England. After that we lost the Euro final 2008 and 2 semi-finals in 2012/2016. That's why I'm now keeping my fingers crossed for England winning the Euro 2024 in Germany because that would show me that there are no curses (anymore). England already has overcome one curse (reaching a final outside home soil) and they still have 2 curses left on their shoulders (winning a final after 1966 and Harry Kane winning a major team trophy not only a personal one). England "got one curse" after winning the World Cup in England (like Germany with the Euro in England). Ok, they can't win a World Cup at the Euro but winning it on Sunday is nearly even that good. I know the feeling all too well when your team is in the final and you're nervous as **** the whole days before. And when your guys win it then it's nearly as good as ...(you know ). Most of you guys never witnessed that so far in your life (winning a tournament not the "other thing") only the old farts like Arky and Mowgs and even they were too young back then. So I really grant you this feeling on sunday. So, that's all for today. Now you know what I'm thinking while shaving in the morning Fingers crossed for Sunday, guys ps: maybe benching Harry Kane for only having to overcome one curse and not two on sunday?
I'd say it's more about your quality personally Back in 2014 you were by far the fittest, fastest, most intense team at the World Cup (imo) you absolutely destroyed Brazil, made Messi cry and put France in their place. You had an answer for every style. Since then you've just not been as good or had enough players on the top of their game. No disrespect to decent players bit you don't have enough wirtz/musiala coming in so are relying on gundogan/can/kroos/kimkich/never types. Great players but past it and the difference was you chased it v Spain got your late equaliser and then thr tank was dry in extra time. If you get a full team in their mid 20s to 28 all at once then you'll be in the semis and finals again no question. England have always been imo just not quite good enough based on either tactics, game management or just playing inferior players as square pegs in round holes cos they came from the right club. Southgate is a grinder and it's got England further than better sides of the past what failed in extra time or on pens or with red cards but it's not won beacuse it doesn't have an answer. Our last 16 was seconds from being out Our qf was on pens after shutting up shop to get them. Our SF we actually went for it u till he and then shut down again and it looked like extra time but we got the break and Watkins made a difference. We will grind it out again imo. Spain give up chances. We just have to play to our strengths.
btw: We also had quality in 2008-2012. Couldn't win the final in 2008 because there was one team better in the world and that was Spain who were at the beginning of their golden era winning all tournaments from 2008-2012. the tank was dry? Tbh in the 30 mins extra time we had more chances than Spain (who unfortunately nicked their only real big one in the 119th minute, one minute away of a penalty shootout (which we mandatory would've won (that's a joke, don't quote). Füllkrug e.g got a goalpost shot and even after Spain made the mentioned 2-1 we still had another great chance. Anyway, it's now pointless to discuss gone matches and it wasn't even the quintessence of my last post and that was: Winning a tournament in England and your team is cursed (England for World Cups since 1966 and Germany for Euros since 1996) and that I hope that England can lift another 2 curses on their shoulders (winning a Euro final and Harry Kane winning a trophy) to make it 3 curses erased in a tournament in Germany and would give us hope, too, that our Euro curse is gone soon.
you may not want to hear it frannie, but as someone who’s lived in both Pompey and Soton. I’ve heard ‘mush’ used far more regularly in Pompey
different way of saying it though, that lot tend to say "mooosh", whereas we use "mush". To be honest i have no idea who uses it more, i know it's a romany word in origin and used pretty much all along the south coast (and weirdly a bit in the black country too), but i know a geordie mate of mine moaned at us once that he had no idea what was going on in a conversation because every other word was mush
