Really don't see why we had to include the other nations in this bid when England has more than enough stadiums to host the event in itself. Especially as Northern Ireland's role has fell through so now it's just Ireland, Wales and Scotland. England could easily have hosted ourselves could have used: Wembley - 90,000 Old Trafford - 74,197 Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - 62,850 London Stadium - 62,500 Anfield - 61,276 Emirates - 60,704 City of Manchester Stadium - 52,900 Everton Stadium - 52,888 St James Park - 52,258 Stadium of Light - 48,095 Villa Park, 42,918 Stamford Bridge - 40,173 That's 12 stadiums over 40,000 without going to the other nations. Hopefully when we get a world cup it's England only. Also we might have the new larger Manchester and Newcastle stadiums to play with by the time we get a world cup.
Well, they were never going to use 4 stadiums in just one city for starters. No real issues with it being across the UK and Ireland, everyone gets the benefit and it’s not like travelling around is any real hardship.
Why not? It's not like they're next to each other. You could bring in police and security from elsewhere in the country for the event. You need a ferry/flight to get Ireland - so that's a hardship straight away. Our national trains are poor service and likely to make travelling outside of London cumbersome - especially with the kind of volume of traveller's you'd expect for a Euros or world cup so utilising more of the comparatively better transport system would make sense.
It's not that england couldnt host on its own but because UEFA love joint bids. Personally I'd find an all england finals pretty dull.
Is it though? More of a hardship than travelling by road or rail from London to Newcastle for example? More of a hardship than travelling from Munich to Cologne? Which is what Scotland did during Euro 2024 and sure there are plenty of other examples from that tournament and many other tournaments. You’re potentially looking at almost a game in London every day. You’re looking at swathes of supporters from at least 4 different countries all being in the same place at once, alongside local communities who want a bit of the action and your every day commuter going to and from work. Absolute carnage, regardless of whether you bring extra security/police in from elsewhere. Have you seen the London Underground at the best of times?
